Not mine. If anyone wants to gift me a guitar, this is the one. I'm going to die some day. Hopefully not for several decades, but I am going to die. This gift could mean decades of joy for Garrelli 5000.

I believe to date only 2 were made. Degarmo owns one. I randomly found the guy owns the other (built in 2005) but he wasn't willing to part with it. I suspect he paid a hell of a lot more than what this one is listed based on the limited info he would share.

Diablo Guitars in WA is owned by the current 2nd guitar player in Queensryche (Chris DeGarmo's replacement). Looks like he's commissioned ESP to build two more of these replicas.

What I need to do is find an older ESP M-II and parts-caster it. There are plenty of people who could mimic the paintjob. If I find one with only a humbucker I could have the mid routed. Any super-strat could be reappropiated to do the job.

Anywho - my absolute original guitar heros that made me want to learn to play guitar were Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton. This guitar is the holy grail. I completely understand the band, colors, model, style, etc., are not for most that post on this thread.

Apologies if I randomly posted pics of this guitar years ago on this same thread. This new opp to purchase is showing an older photo of the 2005 replica of the original.

No apology necessary! You like what you like, and Queensryche was huge and had cool gear when they busted out in a larger way with Mindcrime and again with Empire.

The 80's had some crazy guitars for sure!

I had a birthday recently. It landed me $150 in Sweetwater monies.

What should I buy?

I don't need another guitar (at this time).

I've got plenty of tools and strings and stands and a Spark Mini and cables and wireless and clip-on tuners. I don't need that stuff. Gig bags. Straps. Picks. Capo. All covered.

Pedal?

Maybe a Strobe tuner pedal?

I've been considering a looper. Those look fun.

I have no problem spending more than $150 if needed.

Heck, I could get one of those PRS Satin guitars for $349 after applying my gift dollars. It's tempting.

What say you?

If you don't have a loop pedal, that should be #1 on your list. I wouldn't have a board without one. I just have a very simple Ditto, but i use it every day.

Yeah I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on one of those myself. Such an incredible value. But now I've also discovered the new Fender Tom DeLonge Starcaster.

The Peterson StroboStomp HD is right at $150 and I've loved mine. I can't go back to any other tuner after having a Peterson. I got one for $100 on a sale when they first came out a few years ago.

I've never heard of it.

What size and type of solder do y'all recommend for guitar pickup and switch and jack replacements?

Just standard 60/40-ish with a rosin core. The size is just a personal choice. I use 0.8mm, but that's just what I use for most things. I generally use a little solder as possible.

A quality solder wick is actually most important. I have always used this because my dad always used it: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Chip-Quik/SOLDERWICK2.5?qs=1Kr7Jg1SGW%2Fad%252B1QeoXzyw%3D%3D

Outside of all that, invest in a quality soldering iron. I only use Weller and the 80W one for grounding to the back of the pots, because you need to heat that as quick as possible, so you don't burn up the pot.

Thanks. Solder wick is important. It's been a long time since I soldered but I remember what to do. In spring of '87 I worked at IBM in austin doing inspection and repair of printed circuit boards ahead of the PS-2 rollout. The computer, not the gaming system.

My son has a good solder station from being in robotics but I haven't checked if it's a Weller.

I just need some time without chores and interruptions! My wife is going out of town for a training in May. I will plan it for then.

My only amp at this point is a Spark Mini. It's been great for what I need and do right now.

However…

One of the complaints about Spark is that it doesn't have a looper feature built in yet, which is dumb because you control most of the amp's features with an app and can by a pedal to do some things like switch between presets.

I haven't searched all the available pedal options so I might be lacking all the info at this point.

The YouTuber on the GuitarZeroToHero channel who does all the Spark instructional stuff put out a video two weeks ago about a pedal that finally lets you loop properly.

The complaint has always been that if you run a Ditto or a Boss or whatever thru a Spark, you are stuck with one tone. You can't have one tone for your loop and then switch to another tone for your lead. Your lead is going to have whatever you used on the loop.

The pedal this guy shows helps you with that. The setup seems a little convoluted.

It might be time to get an amp for such things and use the Spark when I'm taking gear with me to practice or travel.

Fender has a 20% off sale that expires soon. Not sure if this is one time use, but wanted to post since I'm not using it.

A Spector and a Fodera in the wild?!?!

Beautiful basses

(Can't see the headstock on the bass on the left. Could be something else)

It's from a Spector owners group FB page. Maybe they are both Spectors?

I pretended to play bass as a youth and wanted a Spector really badly. But they cost more than the vehicle I was driving at the time.

Same….

But on a different note yes that is a Spector! I didn't know they made it into the fanned fret game.

There is a looper pedal for the spark. Made by Xsonic. I have the AIRSTEP Spk foot switch, which is cool, and connects to a looper app, but it's a pita and I don't like messing with tech. (Which is ironic since I'm in IT)

Also, I think I'm going to have to take my Spark 40 apart and do some soldering on it myself. It works fine if I use headphones but when I unplug them, it cuts out all the time.

I saw the XSonic in the YouTube video I mentioned. It does not look like a straight forward solution. I don't understand how Positive Grid isn't on top of this considering how good they are with other stuff.

Can anyone recommend a good small tube amp? I have a Yamaha THR10, but coming from the Mesa/Boogie Nomad I had previously, it just leaves me wanting so much more. Not gigging anymore, so don't need anything more than probably 5 watts, but I need that cranked tube amp goodness back in my life.
