StewMac is always sending me eMails about kits. They have lots of kits, lots of tools, and tons of videos online about how to put together guitars or set them up.

Watch some of their stuff and see if it looks doable for you.

Unless you go through someone like Warmoth, you will probably get very rough parts to put together. With an S-style guitar, that can cause some headache around the neck pocket fit without some necessary sanding or a shim. The frets will also probably need a level if you are not purchasing from someone like Warmoth, not to mention the sharp fret ends.

Even if you buy a complete harness with all the pots, switch, and jack, you will still need to purchase pickups and solder those to the switch. Difficult? Not really, but does require the purchase of a soldering iron. You also need to be careful soldering the ground leads to the pots, because a crappy soldering iron could cause you to overheat the pots and melt them, especially if you are using cheap pots.

Honestly, unless you are in it for the fun of building a kit, you are better off buying a used Mexican fender and then upgrading it over time, if you want to. Price wise, it doesn't really make sense unless you are willing to learn how to level frets, round the fretboard edges and round fret ends. You are just not going to get the same quality parts in a Mexican Fender for less than Fender. You can only go cheaper, and now you have a guitar that doesn't feel good to play, uneven frets, cheap parts, crappy pickups, and neck pocket issues.

I've specced out a Tele on Warmoth many times, and i'm always looking at around $1,200 before I even purchase pickups. Doing a quick reverb search shows Fender Mexican Standards can be nabbed easily in the $500's.

The cheapest way to do a warmoth would be to get an unfinished body and just do a tung oil finish and a cheaper neck. Their necks and bodies are also made as direct replacements for fender guitars to you can buy one or the other and bolt it onto a Fender body. But like DTA said, the true cheapest way would probably be to buy a Mexican strat and upgrade it.

Gotta love Facebook scams. A Private Stock is generally $10k+ guitar. Hollowbodies are even more with a likely premium for it being lefty. Of course Jack here lists this wonderful deal as a Gibson and offers a payment plan.

Thank you all so much for the advice!

This doesn't seem like it would be DallasTeleAg approved.

What is that, a Schecter?

I don't see that exact one, but it would appear to be an ESP based on Swee****er's site and there's not a single one they have in stock for less than $1499.

A seven string tele with a Fishman Fluence pickup is definitely different.

Edit: never thought about the word within a word in that one. You'd think maybe TexAgs could figure out how to code around that someway.

Yeah. That part of some words gets filtered.

That is probably a Stef Carpenter (Deftones) ESP. Tele in looks only, otherwise a metal guitar.

Had Phillip McKnight's YouTube channel up while I was doing some weekend work. He streams on Friday nights and sometimes it's interesting.

I glanced up at the chat between tasks and saw this. Pretty good comment.

Not a new guitar, but a new gig bag for my Sire finally showed up almost two months later.

Forgot to post this last week, but my Tone King Gremlin has been here for a week or so, now. Fantastic amp that I can play without enabling the attenuator. I wouldn't call it "bedroom" levels, but it's not shaking windows. Great tone and feel for an amp with only volume and tone. About the size of a fender blues jr.

I will say, the built-in Iron Man attenuator is not the full version that my Imperial has. When I try engaging it, the sound definitely gets a little muddy sounding. The one in the Imperial MKII has a great switch that helps balance that, so I can always play it while engaged with great tones.

All around, I do love this amp, but it works absolutely best with my Tele and Strat. Those tones are fantastic.

You do seem to have a shortage of amps.

Since Dallas posted his Gremlin, might as well post this TK Imperial MKII. Pulled the trigger a few weeks back as an early Father's Day / anniversary gift and wow is this amp impressive. I've been exploring the rhythm channel and the cleans are wonderful. The attenuator is a blessing because anything above 4-5 is loud! The tremolo is fun, but a bit too surfy for me. Maybe when I'm in a spacey mood. I can easily see how this is a great pedal platform; especially with a Strat or Tele. I have to dial back the volume on the hambuckers a good bit to keep the cleans otherwise that bite really kicks in.

That's a nice rig you have there.

I approve! Great decision and still my favorite amp!

I will say, the Imperial really comes to life with a Tele or Strat going through it. Humbuckers definitely drive it hard, and the amp is not really made with high head room. You can swap out some tubes for other models if you want more headroom on the blackface channel.

Dude just posted this on one of the PRS Facebook pages. It's his 20 year employee guitar.

Man, I gotta figure out how to get a remote job with them.

That is really lovely. Not for everybody, I'm sure, but he has something that is pretty unique.

Way better than a gold watch or a Cross pen set!

Agreed about better than a gold watch! Here's my 20 year employee gift. I held off a few months on picking something from the catalog because nothing truly appealed to me. This was just added earlier this year.

Awesome gift! Came with a practice amp too.

Looks like a 9" cable though so they could check at least one impractical checkbox

Gonna need to go wireless!

I'm pretty sure wireless is my Father's Day present this weekend. I got the Spark 40 when I got the guitar but it is actually still too loud for when people in the house are sleeping.

The Spark Go is a new acquisition and it's perfect as a headphone amp or even on its own without waking people up. Which is ironic since my older son plays tuba until all hours.

That's why I got the iRig for now. Plugs into my iPad and then has a headphone out, but can also go out with a quarter inch to a speaker. I got the blue board as well to do foot switching in the amplitube app between models/effects.

What is the model name on the spark pictured with your guitar?

Can you headphones on it? I'm looking for something that I can play in a room while everyone is asleep but not lose a lot of sound quality

Any recs out there? And not having to stick a headphones into my giant amp

That's the Positive Grid Spark Go. Pretty sure it can use headphones.

The Positive Grid Spark is another good option. Easy to play at bedroom levels and runs on battery if needed.

I've got a Spark Mini and can use headphones as well.

I'm curious about the sound quality of the Go.

Do you know anyone that could swap out fret dots/markers on a roasted maple neck and do a good job with it?

Maybe that guy near Washington street in Houston that has been mentioned here?

It's not a huge issue, but might be a consideration. These abalone dots are not easy to see sometimes. The dots on the top edge of the fretboard are helpful, but dots on the neck would show up better if they were white, or Mother Of Pearl.

Any of y'all ever had that kind of work done on a fingerboard?

I would think most luthiers could handle that. Where are you at?

Aggieland

Guitar Center lost their tech and I don't know if he's been replaced.

Thorne Music has done setups for me but I don't know if they handle this sort of thing.
