On another note, just picked up my ES-335 from the tech here in Houston. He was very well priced for installing everything and putting new strings in the guitar. Hell, he was going to charge $71.36 for everything, and I just gave him an even $80.

I tell you what, SD Antiquity pickups are just so awesome. These antiquity humbuckers are so much more articulate, dynamic, clear and transparent than the Gibson Classic 57's, it's really night and day. This 335 just sounds absolutely amazing, now, and is a blast to play. It still has that different dynamic, when comparing to my Lester, so there will be times I pick one up versus the other.

Your pics aren't displaying properly.

Meanwhile, I'm watching a new Anderton's video on semi-hollow body guitars.

I already posted pictures of my ES-335, in this thread. I simply swapped pickups and put an Emerson 335 electronic harness kit in there, which are fantastic.

If you're looking for Strat pickups, I also suggest looking at D Allen, they have some great stuff (IMO). I have the "Echoes" (shocker, I know) set in a G&L guitar I have and they are awesome. Particularly like the dual output bridge, excellent feature. Check 'em out here:

You going to see Brit Floyd on Sunday in Sugarland?
Yep, think so, got free tix from a buddy of mine. They are excellent, if a tad boring. I think they're the best Floyd tribute going worldwide though, overall, so looking forward to it!

Good show tonight! Lots of deeper cuts!

Indeed, had a great time. Like I say, IMO they're a bit boring (maybe a bit too "perfect"), but damn they are *excellent* musicians and they do a great cross-section of material. Loved hearing "Poles Apart" (one of my faves from The Division Bell) and "The Final Cut" for sure, and they played a lot of other great songs. Echoes was pretty awesome, and the light show was top notch. Really enjoyed it, gave me the itch to go home and play Floyd again.

We were third row right in front of Gilmour/Darlington.

He made me want to get a pearloid pickguard and some EMG's!

Some of those deeper cuts were so deep I didn't remember them but they were good.

Ian busting out the Chapman Stick was a treat. He didn't get as many vocal opportunities as last time I saw them. It's a shame because he's great.

Edo Scardo didn't sing lead last time I saw them and they let him song two songs this time. It was good.

Three guys that can all sound like Gilmour and one that does a good Roger Waters as well.

Would have liked to have heard Young Lust but I'll take what we got last night.

Glad the turnout was pretty good. When I bought tickets there were still a lot of open seats

I'd be interested to hear a Chapman stick player with a band. My only previous experience with it was a guy that used to come to an open mic I'd go to that would try to play his ten minute jazz fusion instrumentals and then get pissy when he wasn't allowed three songs like everybody else. He was good, but it was all stuff that was interesting to watch for about 90 seconds.

I used to see them advertised in guitar magazines with Tony Levin in the ads way back in the 80's. Only recently did I see a video of Levin playing one in a group with Portnoy and Petrucci and a keyboard player. They are an interesting instrument for sure.

Trey Gunn used to play one with King Crimson back in the day.

PSA - this is NOT my listing. I peruse Craigslist occasionally anb always type "carvin" in the search. This X100B head came back. For $350 this is an amazing amp if you like 70's/80's rock, or if you're looking for a high powered clean channel to add all your color w/pedals. 100/50/25 watt modes, effects loop, spring reverb.

https://dallas.craigslist.org/mdf/msg/d/bedford-carvin-x100b-tube-amp/7492705823.html

I grew up listening to 80's rock so I love the driven tone. I have the 2x12 combo of this amp.

Here's a guy w/a couple of demo videos.

The first one he some basic 80's style delay and reverb. In video two he kills the delay and at the 3 minute mark focuses on the clean channel tones. He also discusses settings to get a more typical blues tone by backing off the volume.

He notes that if you switch to 25watt mode the clean will break up when you drive it and I can confirm from my combo. In 100watt mode you'll never get the clean to break up. based on what a lot of you guys discuss I suspect most of you don't prefer this tone, but I had to share for those that might be seeking it.

Bonus: This guy's facial expressions are awesome. Good player though.

I'd have to check the time line but I think Levin was before Gunn and after again.

Nice! Also replacing the tuning keys and nut?
maroon barchetta
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Not yet.

Tuning keys would have to be something similar to what's on there based on what I have found. Most replacements need a 10mm peg hole and these are much smaller. If I decide to upgrade I'll have to get a reamer tool and take those to 10mm.

Not worried about the nut yet. Gotta see if I can get this thing to intonate first.

The new JP Majesty guitars from Ernie Ball look seriously badass. But they are also $6000 for the limited edition ones. Sounds like very few will be made and signed by John. If I didn't have to sell my Custom 22 and my left nut to buy one I would be all over that spiced melange color.

1:15 mark for the limited edition ones.

I've got nothing necessarily against PRS. I know they make great guitars, but I just haven't played one that has wowed me or that I fell in love with. I also love vintage and classic guitar tones, which is why my collection is pretty much Gibson and Fender.

I mean, I get i could probably play one of their core models with a PAF style pickup, mahogany body, maple top, set neck, and stop bar tailpiece, and it would probably sound great. But I don't want to have to spend $5K on a guitar that I like.

I bought a CE and S2 model and, though the necks felt great and were obviously quality instruments, I did not care much for the sound of those guitars. There is something about them that just didn't do it for me. My CE is a beautiful guitar, but I hardly ever pick it up to play, because i just don't feel anything when I play it.

Alternatively... every time I pick up one of my top 5-6 guitars to play for a while, I am shook by how much I forget I love that particular guitar. I will sometimes jump between all of those in a given session because i just love the flavor of each one. Those are my custom shop tele (my #1), 2002 LP Standard, '61 Reissue ES-330, 2001 ES-335, '63 Reissue Strat, and Fender Original 60's strat. Each one of those guitars just has a different feel and sound that I absolutely love. I just can't put into words how much of a joy it is to play those guitars.

Started the bridge/tremolo swap.

Dimensions are identical and holes for screws are even wider on the new tremolo but at least one hole needs to be filled and re-drilled. Possibly two. I think the middle four will work.

Block on the Wilkinson is much beefier than the stock trem block.

I cleaned up the fretboard real good while the strings are off. Whoever had this cheap Strat last was filthy. And clumsy.

My retired neighbor is a wood worker. He has a drill press. I'm seeing him in the morning to get his opinion and tap his expertise on wood projects. He wants to know what kind of wood this body is made from. I don't know. The serial number checker didn't tell me much.

He's glad to be asked for his input and to have a project to work on.

What say you, music men? A 2016 Squier made in Indonesia? Poplar? Alder? Basswood? Pine?

Pics of old and new. Screw holes just don't quite line up.

Adjusting the saddles will be weird on this thing.

Holding to the thread topic, let's talk new guitars.

Thomann is like a German version of Sweetwater or maybe more like Anderton's.

Harley Benton is their house brand of guitars from what I have read. I think I mentioned them a page or two back.

This screenshot from the Thomann site…how is it possible to have guitars this cheap?

Poker chip or no poker chip on Les Pauls? My Warmoths I went without, but their figuring was absurd. The Epi LP I think might look odd.
