It's the PRS Tremonti model. I had a silver one about fifteen years ago that was stoptail. Would have preferred that, but finding stoptail versions are damned near hens teeth.

Eh, give it a try. Can always block it off if you have to. Probably couldn't tell the difference between stoptail and blocked trem blindfolded.

The ones with a stoptail have a little more clearance between the strings and body, and a little more back angle on the neck/body joint. It may or may not feel different to you depending on how you pick.
I've got a few. I just don't use it much and would have preferred a hard tail, no worries though. This guitar new at the price I got it for was too much to pass on.

I think that was the story originally why Tremonti wanted it that way. I don't recall hearing much of a difference when I had the previous one.

I don't know of those covers change the tone much or not. My ears could not tell and my opinion is they are for looks.
I had a separate guitar that I installed covers on for a bit for looks. I didn't notice a change and those were even holeless covers. I think it's probably something people have said in the past and just took as truth. Maybe DallasTeleAg has some insight. I think he at a minimum has a better ear for that stuff than me.
So does Guitar Center make sure to have the dumbest, least knowledgeable people in the store write descriptions for the used stuff they bring in? I was looking through used amps and ran across an Marshall AVT275. I used to have one and they have it listed as a Marshall AVT 275 Tube Guitar Amp. It is 100% solid state. They definitely always seem to make these mistakes in a way that makes the item at least appear more valuable. They occasionally have their uses, but if I never stepped foot in GC again I'd be good with that.

Let them keep it up! They massively underpriced the used Larrivee I purchased years ago. A buddy scored an insanely beautiful purple MM Axis years ago and talked the idiot down on the price to borderline theft because they didn't understand the used market for the instruments.
That's probably changed somewhat with more sites to quickly search now like Reverb, but I have no doubt there are still deals to be found if you know what you're looking at.

So here's something I didn't know and I'm wondering if I've been living under a rock: dots and moon inlays aren't the same thing.
I always thought they were synonymous. Didn't realize moon inlays had a crescent moon included in the circle/dot.

It is a mathematical fact that putting a nickel plate between the pickup and the strings will affect the output of the pickup.
Now, whether you can actually hear that difference is a different matter entirely. There are many who took the covers off of the old PAF's because they wanted a hotter sound. Many people just love the look that they associate with their favorite guitar players who took the pickup off. However, removing that plate would reduce the interference between the magnet and the string.
I have seen videos with guys who have great ears for music, and they can tell the difference between different guitars with features others say make no difference. We all hear differently or are more attuned to nuances in tone, pitch, dynamics, etc.
I personally love lower output pickups, and I love the look of a cover. However, the biggest difference between my SD Antiquity pickups and my Gibson Classic 57's isn't the lack of cover on the 57's, but the weaker magnets, scatterwinding, and fewer winds on my antiquities.
I cannot genuinely say I can point out covered and non-covered pickups in a blind test. However, if I were to try, it would take me a long time to really play with the dynamics to even give it a shot. I hate when people plug a guitar into a high gain amp, crank up the distortion and start shredding, then turn to me and say, "see, tonewoods don't matter, pots don't matter, and solid state vs tube doesn't matter!" Well.... no crap man. You are not using the instrument in a way to truly appreciate the dynamics inherent in a great guitar and amp. When I play my Les Paul through my Tone King at the edge of breakup and use my volume/tone pots and picking to control the dynamics of my playing, there is definitely a difference between cheap/expensive and tonewoods.
At the end of the day, what makes a guitar perfect for you are the hundreds of little things that work together. Let's say a base guitar gets you to 85% of a perfect guitar. If the next 30 little things people say don't matter to tone each provide you 0.5% more of the way there, then that's how you end up with your 100% perfect guitar. It's up to you to determine if those extra things are worth the price of the guitar doubling.
And hey... even if it is all in your head, who the hell cares? It's your guitar and you should be happy with everything about the guitar. If an uncovered bridge pickup and covered neck pickup sound more classic to you because you associate that with Jimmy Page, then your perception is reality.

So... just purchased an ES-335 off Reverb. I've been watching for them for weeks now, and finally saw one come up in great condition, with a dark fretboard, figured natural finish, and slim neck.
Best of all, they had it listed for $2,500 plus shipping. That was too good of a price to pass up, so I took the leap. From what I can see in the pictures, there doesn't seem to be any issues with it, other than natural tarnishing of the hardware, but I love the look of dull nickel plated hardware on a guitar.
He had it listed as "Very Good" condition, but the pictures look like it should be rated better than that. Doesn't look like it ever had a headstock break. No visible dings or big problems from the pictures:

Maybe he's trying not to have people come back on him for rating it too high. I've had people get guitars and then go over them with a magnifying glass just about looking for every little thing to complain about. I think it's scarier to sell on these sites than to buy in all honesty.

Yeah... though I love Back to the Future, I just don't really care for red guitars and I already have a vintage finish on my ES-330. I have always really liked the natural finish, since I saw Mick from That Pedal Show play his.
This just seemed to hit everything I was looking for at a fantastic price. I guess we will see when it gets here. The fact that this is a new account selling it does make me a little scared. However, it is on a credit card. So if there is a problem, it can always be cancelled.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. There's always reverb to try and work with on it too. Hopefully he's just new and that's all there is to it.

One of my biggest pet peeves with guitars is the rosewood color. I HATE light rosewood and think it looks cheap. The darker the rosewood, the better.
Speaking of rosewood, I read a deal the other day that Santana has a guitar that he only uses on US tours because it can't leave the country as it has Brazilian Rosewood. I knew there were restrictions on it, but I thought that was just for sale. I didn't realize if I bought a guitar with Brazilian Rosewood that I couldn't even take it with me out of the country. Not that I personally would have a reason too, but that's just nuts. That said, I do know PRS labels their guitars with Brazilian with a USA Only on the back of the headstock.
Oh yeah... that's definitely a thing. I've heard of situations where they don't only confiscate it, but they also destroy it. Pretty crazy.
Many manufacturers still have Brazilian rosewood in their wood stores from 40 years ago. I know Gibson just recently did a run of guitars with Brazilian rosewood, and they were expensive.

That's insane. When I was looking for this last guitar, I saw several Brazilian PRS guitars and they were all $5000+ with many being a lot more than that.

So I went into Tone Shop in Addison today to grab some strings and kill some time. I have an affinity for unique/"offbeat" guitars and have been interested in the old Silvertones since I saw Afie Jurvanen playing one. Long story short I walked out of Tone Shop today with a Silvertone Jupiter and a wah pedal and forgot the strings.
The thing was super cheap (especially after the 20% off sale) and I've had it home for about an hour. Super fun little guitar to play and actually sounds killer through my Bassbreaker.

Heading to Nashville in a couple of months for a long weekend. Any must-visit guitar stores? I know there are several famous vintage shops. I'm not a vintage guitar chaser but will likely still check some out.
I plan to visit The North American Guitar because if I were ever to pull the trigger on a "bespoke" custom acoustic luthier build, this shop has many that I could test. Then I'd need to set aside extra $ so it can fit in my casket w/me
I'm really excited to sit down and see how some of my go-to progressions, runs, etc., feel and sound on some of these instruments.
I'd also be interested in any local luthiers that have storefronts - acoustic or electric.
I know Google is my friend but would love to hear any first-hand recs.
