As far as New Guitar Day posts, my Eriza Green PRS CE finally made it in. Since I had already ordered the real PRS bridge/block for the S2 I had, I went ahead and installed it in the CE, today. Damn, but that made a difference. I also had to relieve a little tension in the neck because it was fretting out. Took a couple hours to clean the neck, oil, install the new bridge, relieve the neck, set the string height, and set intonation. The guitar plays like a dream, now. It is also GORGEOUS!

I'll post pics when I can get a good one with natural sunlight. I probably won't be able to until Thursday. Actually worked in the office today and will also, tomorrow. Not enough light by the time I get home.

My next plan is to replace the pots with high quality push/pull pots. I want the coil tap like it is, but I also want the set a reverse phase push/pull on the volume pot.

I will now need to decide what to do with the S2. I have a weakness for Green guitars and don't mind accumulating them...

I'll post them. I had the plate off when I was installing the bridge. PRS seems to have a lot going on in there. Looks like some kind of treble bleed circuit? Saw some resisters on the push/pull I had never seen before on others. I'm going to have to look into how these are wired.

Interesting. I haven't pulled the plates off. Since I'm selling the one I got I haven't touched it much. It's in almost pristine condition and it would really suck to have something happen by accident to drop the value. I'll have to look around and see what I can find on it.

I'm talking about the resistors on the push/pull. I've never seen that before. The only resistor I have seen in a guitar cavity is when part of a treble bleed circuit.

They're top notch. I've had three. Might want to buy soon. I saw on a Facebook page for them that they're raising their prices.

Never posted my last NGD.

I've had notifications enabled on Reverb for a Yairi DY-62C for several years. This is the model that Monte Montgomery plays and what his 2004/2005 Yairi signature was based on.

This one popped up last fall and happened to be at Charley's Guitar Shop in Dallas. I called before they opened and asked them to hold it while I drove down.

Purchased new in 2004 by a collector who was thinning his herd via Charley's. Claimed he never played it a single time so only strums have been when its in a store. Not a single pic scratch.

This listed at 1500 and I got it for 1400 + tax. These typically list for a minimum of $1000 but are beat to s***. I've seen listed as high as $2500. This is one of those "right place at the right time" type of scores.

Staff - take out the trash.

That is awesome!!! Absolutely gorgeous guitar (I love the Sienna personally), and should play like a dream. With those upgraded pickups and electronics he should be very well set...well forever honestly. Let us know how the amp search goes!

I guess since it was a part of their custom color deal they got a little nicer top than what you usually see on the CE models. They usually get that flame where you can only see one side's figuring at a time. The color actually has some green tones in it but I couldn't get those to show up.

She was done being outwardly pissed off at me by Friday evening. I told her about it Friday around noon. That said, she doesn't have much interest in this one. I've generally avoided bringing it up. She gets a look when it's mentioned so best not to poke the bear on that one.

i have a question about actual kids guitars. have a buddy whose son is interested in playing and wants to get him a beginner to play with/have fun on/learn with until he's big enough for a real guitar. what guitar would you recommend for 5-7 age range that he can wail away on for a few years until he graduates to something bigger/more common?

edited to add: he's a very intelligent kiddo with good eye-hand coordination so i believe he will be actually learning how to play.

Black strat, ash body, hss w/ black pickguard, gold hardware, black pickups/knobs/etc, one piece tinted maple neck. I could get close to that buying used and modifying, but don't think there's anything off the shelf in that particular flavor without going full custom, correct me if I'm wrong.

Seems like a solid list on both sides, but I'd think you'd need something in a 3/4 size which they don't seem to cover. I know Fender makes a mini strat that might be a solid guitar for a smaller child and not break the bank. Looks like Amazon has them at $180 with just the guitar or $280 if you want a package deal.

And if they can find a teacher to keep him interested, that's a great age to start. I wish I had started any instrument that young. They soak up music like crazy.

The biggest thing with the Warmoth route is to take your time. They take care of the major stuff (pickup routes, bridge holes, cavities), but it gets a little nerve racking when you have to start drilling wholes for pickup rings, tuners, and cover plates. The first one I bought I actually took to a local shop and had them put it together, but the one I did myself was a lot more fun.

Excellent purchase! I had a tobacco sunburst 2011 Standard I wish I never traded in. Granted, it was an alder body and not a beautiful ash body. They do swamp ash when the wood grains are going to be very visible because it is a beautiful wood. I love those ash body guitars. There are people who have been playing guitar for years who would be jealous of that guitar. Did you end up paying the asking price?

Damn... if I had been given an American Standard Strat when I started playing...

As for an amp, that is a hard one. Again, I am a fan of used equipment, whether guitar or amp. Values stand pretty still, unless it is a model that is extra popular at the moment and is inflated.

I am not the best person to ask about solid state amps. I only play tube amps. Don't go cheap on an amp, or that nice guitar will sound like trash. I would put at least $300 in an amp, for a decent solid state. If it were me, I would google some lists of good beginner amps, then go to Anderton's YouTube channel to see if they demo that amp. Those guys are great at demoing gear, and are actually fun guys to watch.

All this talk of strats made me pick up my 60's Original, last night. Just threw down a minor chord progression and freestyled for about an hour. There is just nothing like a Strat.

If we're talking beginner amps, tough to beat a boss katana. Just checked reverb and the 50 watt is going for 200 bucks. It's solid state, but it's got plenty of options. Even if he ends up with a quality tube amp someday, that thing will still be good for quiet practice.

Checked out the Anderton's demo of it and it definitely sounds pretty good for a solid state. Earns my stamp of approval for an intro amp.



I mean... comparing that guitar and this amp to my Squier Strat Pack, back in 2001... It's not even close enough to compare.

I've heard good things about the Yamaha THR10 II.

Don't bother with the positive grid spark. I played with one, and it has too much bottom end.

They can find good tube amps for the same price they spent on the guitar. They should be able to find a good used reissue 65 deluxe reverb. Its one of the best tube amps imo.
