For me it comes down to Casino Royale and Sky Fall. Both of these give pretty deep looks into the development of Bond. Very compelling for me.

Of those 2 I have to say Casino Royale. It just set a new tone for the franchise that I love. It is gritty and guttural while still maintaining wit.

I loved Casino Royale but a slight edge to Skyfall cause of A) Deakins and B) the villain. Bardem is incredible in that role. The entirety of the rats monologue is so damn good.

Skyfall by a decent margin; though I really like Casino Royale as well. I place Bardem's villain in Skyfall just below Ledger's joker and Hans Landa in Inglorious *******s. Think he's incredible in it.

Quantum is alright, and Spectre wasn't a bad movie, but was pretty disappointing given how highly I think of Christopher Waltz.

Mads Mikkelsen, Javier Bardem, and Christoph Waltz are a hell of a villain line up for any single franchise.

The only question is which is #2. (#1 will always be Goldeneye due to nostalgia.)

If we're going to talk about other 007 films, I tend to go against the grain with the ones I rank highest ...

The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill are tops for me, with From Russia With Love, Casino Royale, and Goldeneye rounding out a top 5.

For me, Skyfall edges out Casino Royale just slightly - both are probably my 2 favorite Bond movies period. Spectre was good, but I did not care for QOS at all.

Agreed. Although the action in Spectre is borderline ridiculous, it's still a much better story imo than QOS.

Both great and it's close, but Casino Royale gets the win for me. Amazing energy all the way through plus a fresh take on the characters and that insane first action sequence. Also one of my favorite title sequences ever.

the title sequence is really well done too.

initially, my only nitpick with Casino Royale was the fact that they played hold em poker, but i've come around on that.

Casino Royale barely edges Skyfall for me and I think they're my 1-2 of all-time Bond films. but there have probably been times i'd flip flop them.
