Gladiator was not a movie that I connected with upon first viewing. I recognized it as a good movie at the time, but upon repeated viewings either on DVD or TNT, I've come to see it as a freaking awesome movie. As for Ridley Scott movies, I'd rank it his third best.

Just to solidify not a troll, I'm not saying it's a bad movie, it's just not great and has a lot of flaws.

The awful kid acting
The CGI with the old gladiator
Joaquins performance as the effeminate and incestuous Ceaser was off putting
The speech made by his sister at the end is cringe worthy
And the over used trope of the wise and noble savage sidekick

The fact that you are using Joaquin's performance as a negative tells me all I need to know.

Dark Knight seems much shorter, a testament to its quality.

Ledger's Joker put TDK over the top for me. It's a played out topic, but he really was just that good, imo. But I can see the arguments for Gladiator for sure.
