This thread inspired me to start tossing around the idea of a directors' bracket until I started listing and realized that any attempt is going to just cause far more controversy than it solves

Decided to set up a short little tournament for this.

Cameron has 8 theatrical films and Fincher has 10, so I decided to drop 2 Fincher movies to make it an even 16. (Alien 3 and Panic Room -- Nobody cares about either of these, I'm sure.)

And rather than have the each director have their own bracket, I'm going to have them go up against each other right off the bat.

First Round Matchups:
1. T2 vs 8. Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
2. Terminator vs 7. The Game
3. Titanic vs 6. Curious Case of Benjamin Button
4. True Lies vs 5. Gone Girl
5. Aliens vs 4. Zodiac
6. Avatar vs 3. Seven
7. The Abyss vs 2. Fight Club
8. Piranha 2 vs 1. The Social Network

I never realized Fincher did 7. I like Cameron but I gota go Fincher here.

Aliens v Zodiac is tough. So is Terminator v The Game but gotta go with the classic there.

For me it's True Lies vs Gone Girl. I absolutely love True Lies but Gone Girl is also fantastic and I'd hate to vote it out right off the bat.

That was really, really hard. So many tough decisions.

There is a 50/50 tie right now and I guarantee it's one nobody would expect.

Avatar vs Seven was tough, the rest were pretty easy picks.

Im just not that big of a Cameron fan.

It took Avatar and Piranha 2 until today to finally get on the board. No surprise there on Piranha, but I have to say I'm surprised how badly Avatar was blown out. I figured it might get at least 20% of the votes. Alas...Seven treated Avatar like the RDA treated the Na'vi.

Here's the most suprising thing -- The Abyss and Fight Club was a 50/50 matchup until late this morning. Personally I've never seen The Abyss, but I'm surprised how close it came to taking out Fight Club. Really gotta check that one out soon.

That was my toughest pick this round, Zodiac is great but Aliens is an absolute classic.

They're really hard to compare, to be honest. I mean the only movie that could've really been compared to Aliens is Alien 3... and we know how that would've gone.

But yeah, I agree with fig. Aliens is a classic, and endlessly rewatchable. Just like True Lies.

Fincher... didn't even have to think hard about it.

Fight Club is in my top 5 and I think Seven is one of the best written movies I've seen (though I know he didn't write it).

I don't look at any of Cameron's movies as over at least 3 or 4 of Fincher's movies.

We're moving towards the director's bracket I was thinking about again

I got to a list of like 30something (just modern era) and then realized how hard it was to seed directors relative to each other. It's so hard to compare directors that do really different things.

Sorry, make that 2 close matchups.

I highly doubt anyone could accurately tell me which movie is winning in all 4 matchups. Very unexpected results so far.

Well there's been 2 votes today, so I'm capping it at 18 votes. What's funny is, reverse all Chipotle's guesses and that's the results.
