Day 4 Matchups - VOTE NOW

#2 Return of the King vs. #6 Revenge of the Sith

Spilner right now

It's early yet, but Return of the King might have been looking ahead to the FOTR showdown tomorrow and not paying enough attention to the matchup right in front of it.

Out of curiosity, are you guys voting "better movie" or "more enjoyable to watch"?

Admittedly, I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan. I think I saw Revenge of the Sith once when it came out. I get that people love those movies and I don't begrudge them that. However, I was under the impression that everyone hated the prequels. Do people really like Revenge of the Sith that much, or does it get votes because it's a Star Wars movie?

Most of the time, I stick with "better". But not always.

Revenge of the Sith was the best prequel by a mile. And has benefited greatly from Clone Wars.

I always vote my favorite. I know Citizen Kane is a better movie than Dumb and Dumber, but if voting between the two, Dumb and Dumber will get my vote.

I think it's the third best Star Wars movie.

I love ROTS, but you know this isn't much of a choice if you've seen my posting history.

Put me in the camp of despising all the prequels including ROTS. I thought they were all over-the-top cheesy.

The redeeming things in the prequels:

John Williams and his score

This moment and the scene following it

And, most importantly, Natalie Portman and her white outfit

Incredibles is also underseeded IMO.

Casino Royale vs Bourne Identity is my toughest choice this round.

I could also debate the Nolan Batfilms being good vs being good comic adaptations, but that's a different discussion

I thought Revenge was the best of the prequels when it came out, but find it almost unwatchable now. I hate to say it but Phantom Menace is the best of the prequels, even with all the horrible things in it.

If this is true, you can't give ROTJ a pass. Watch it, take off the nostalgia goggles, and tell me it's a better movie than ROTS.

you realize those same nostalgia goggles are why you like ROTS so much, right? How old were you in 2005?

over time I agree, TPM is better than ROTS. And AOTC is locked in at 11th-best all time.

I watch it every time it's on tv. Without a doubt it's better than Revenge. Lucas added some stuff in the special edition that hurt it though. The song and dance number at Jabbas palace, Hayden as a force ghost, and the whole ending. Revenge is basically Anakin PMSing for 2 hrs.

I thought your point was that ROTS is better than ROTJ. Which for my money is like saying Kellen Mond is better than Johnny Manziel

For my money, that comparison makes as much sense as saying Tomorrow Never Dies is better than Goldeneye.

4pm voting update

No movie has more than 78%of the vote so far.

We have a #3 beating a #2 by 2 votes right now.
A #2 beating a #3 by 1 vote right now.
Another #3 beating a #2 by 6 votes right now.

Ironically the movie with the highest % right now is the one I thought had the best chance of the #1s to go down today, confirming that my high school guidance counselor was right when she said I was not nearly as smart as I think I am. Kudos to you, Mrs. Edwards!

One of the best animated films of the last 20 years, so yes. Results be damned!

(But if it doesn't beat Shrek...seriously y'all?)

Shrek has universal appeal for all kind of kids - a princess, battle scenes, humor, talking animals.
Incredibles is perfect for boys - my girls are 8, they think the kids are funny on Incredibles / Incredibles 2, but the adult stuff is a snooze for them. Other than Frozone, I find myself trending the same way.

Agreed on Bourne vs Casino Royale, two really fantastic movies that I could argue either way.

But Shrek? Seriously, what the hell people...

Dated pop culture references over a pitch perfect homage to 60s Bond interwoven with a genuinely heartfelt story about the important of family wrapped up in superheroes.
