Catch Me If You Can vs Inglourious Basterds is such a tough one for me.

I absolutely love Catch Me If You Can, and I think it's one of Leo's best. But on the other hand, Basterds is a masterpiece and usually tops my list of QT movies.

Casino Royale vs Pirates of the Carribbean is equally tough.

I also hate to vote against Spider-Man this early (I saw that in theaters literally 5+ times because I loved it so much), but I just can't vote for it over TDK.

Spiderman was great, but I don't think it holds up so well almost 20 years later. I saw part of it recently and it was cheesier than I remembered. It's just not up to the standard of recent Marvel movies.

Competition overall is a lot thicker today. I think it comes from the movies being more recent. The 80s had few close matchups, it's been so long since those movies came out, you're pretty much in one camp or the other for most of them.

Wedding Crashers has one of the funniest audio commentaries of all time with Vaughn and Wilson talking about a million different things.

I think the cheese is part of its charm. But I, personally, never found Spider-Man 2 to be all that great in spite of 15 years of everyone kissing its ass.

Alfred Molina as Doc Oc was perfect casting. He nailed that one.

But yeah, it does feel aged because of the new Marvel movies.

Unrelated, but I think Superman should be a boring character, and one of the things I liked about Superman Returns was how they played up his upbringing, hiding his abilities and being nondescript, dealing with "coming out" as an alien, etc. Made the character Superman all that more interesting, because otherwise he's pretty overpowered.

I remember having some fun conversations with TCTTS about this during the lead up to Batman vs. Superman with ideas like:

Batman jumps in the Batmobile to get away; Superman picks up the Batmobile and throws it into the Indian Ocean.
Batman has a kryptonite spear, Superman get shoot Batman with his heat vision from 20 miles and reduce him to ash in 0.5 seconds.

Certainly tough to classify. I see it as a drama with comedic elements but I could see it in an Adventure/Action bracket.

For those that don't mind subtitles, check out a French film called "Cache". It's a great, creepy thriller on Ebert's Great Movies list.

"Zodiac" was also an underrated American film from this era.

I liked Zodiac and it's good on rewatch too. Biggest problem it has is the length of the movie, 2h42m will dock it some (and has).

My kids (young adults now) are obsessed with that movie they watch it frequently. Love it.

And Taken I think really suffered from so many sequels of a repeated formula. It became a joke really. NT had a sequel too but it was a bit different and was about the same quality level as the first. My kids actually want a 3rd of that series.
