A time travel movie about a mom that wants to have sex with her son. Plus they repalced the main actor 5 weeks into shooting.

Watched Bad Boys 3 last night. A sequel after 15 years with an old, washed-up comedian and a guy who hadn't had a hit in over a decade, and yet I thought it was better than either of the originals. (Fight me)

It's amazing what a sense of pacing can do, both for the comedy and the the general plotting of the film. Michael Bay would just let moments and arguments go awkwardly long at times.

Since Tremors and Joe Dirt are already taken...

I'll say Hot Fuzz. That movie is hysterical and I avoided for years before my brother talked me into it.

John Wick should have been terrible. A revenge flick about a dead puppy that's hyper frenetic, yet stars a 50 year old Keanu Reeves in a role that's wooden and awkward even for him, and the whole thing was directed by a stunt man who'd never directed a movie before??

The bolded part of your statement reminds me of Jan de Bont, a cinematographer who in 1994 directed a movie that was a huge hit - Speed. Lunatic plants bomb on a bus, bomb is armed once the bus reaches a certain speed, and if bus drops below that speed, boom. Yet I really liked that movie.

TBF, its about the most proven trope in Hollywood. Taken was a decade before it, and it launched about 100 copy cats, but Death Wish from the 70s did it, and you could probably argue that most westerns draw from that theme.

It's also only sort of accurate. Stahelski was a second unit director on some huge films before John Wick as well as choreographing stunt teams.

I felt like you could feel like the lack of Bay in the action sequences that weren't quite on the same level, but the story and character development were greatly improved. They did a really good job keeping it a high end action movie while clearly acknowledging that the Boys weren't 25 anymore.

You're totally correct that the older man revenge flick isn't new, but John Wick was one of the the most over the top, highest energy action movies ever (and not just in the old man action movie sub genre), and there was 50 year old Keanu stomping ass right in the middle of it.

Obviously it can work because it did, but in a vacuum, "so bat**** crazy frenetic that the stunt man director invented his own martial art (gun fu) for it, and oh, it stars a 50 YO" doesn't sound like a winning pitch.

But a lot of people don't know that The wizard of Os series was the Harry Potter of its day, among the most popular books of the time. The movie was greatly anticipated. The book had sold one million copies before the movie came out. and there had already been a broadway play.

I loved the series. That is a super fun bunch of books. Haven't thought about the books in forever. Thanks for that!

The source material - a novella by Stephen King - is just okay. It definitely doesn't scream "this will make the best movie ever!" Heck, it doesn't really scream "movie" at all.

And then, it was Frank Darabont's first time directing a feature film. Like wtf.

Seconded on Detective Pikachu. I was absolutely convinced ahead of time that it would be utter garbage. But surprisingly, I enjoyed it a lot. Much better than expected.

Bubba Ho-Tep deserves more votes, too.
