Got into this late, but for the record The Secret of Nimh is probably the best non-Disney animated film of the 80s/90s and better than a lot of them. And it still holds up, well worth the watch.

Nah, it'll be 1979 (if I even do one)

Technically still a 90s film and better than pretty much all of them, so good call.

Yeah, barely stays in the decade as a '99 release. As a kid in the 80's, I really liked An American Tail, but it didn't fully hold up when I tried to show it to my kids.

Herzog's brilliant "Fitzcarraldo" came out in '82, as well. I actually wrote a paper on it at A&M.

Scorsese's "The King of Comedy" is a great '82 release, also.

Top 10 for me but that was the height of Anime and I'd put films like Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll and Grave of Fireflies ahead. Also, I think Antz is brilliant.

I've never seen Fitzcarraldo, so the film never even occurred to me while compiling the initial list of movies. As for The King of Comedy, I've likely seen it but have zero recollection of it, and that one also never popped up on my radar.

Great point about the Japanese animated films, I'd put My Neighbor Totoro at the top of the list.

Anime is a bit of a different category for me (and I personally find Akira kind of overrated but to each their own), but fair point. I also have literally no sense of when any of the Miyazaki films are released, they've all got that sort of timeless quality.

I haven't seen Antz in forever, would be interesting to revisit.

Antz has one of the best voice casts of any animated movie ever. And it's about 100x better than A bug's life, which let's face it, is just a rip-off of Three Amigos.

Woody Allen
Dan Akroyd
Anne Bancroft
Jane Curtin
Danny Glover
Gene Hackman
J-Lo
John Mahoney
Stallone
Sharon Stone
Christopher Walken

Moving along, vote in the ELITE 8

The Sweet 16 ended with 33 votes.

E.T. the ExtraTerrestrial 75.8% - The Toy 24.2%
Blade Runner 81.8% - The Verdict 18.2%

The Thing 96.9% - The Entity 3.1%
Conan the Barbarian 75.8% - Firefox 24.2%

Poltergeist 69.7% - The Best Little *****house in Texas 30.3%
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan 90.9% - Missing 9.1%

First Blood 81.8% - Pink Floyd the Wall 18.2%
Fast Times at Ridgemont High 63.6% - Rocky III 36.4%

I was not surprised that Fast Times beat out Porky's in the previous round, but I'm a bit surprised that Fast Times beat out Rocky III.

Fast Times has Phoebe Cates naked in it. I'd take watching that for the first time again over watching A&M beat Alabama or LSU.

My two favorites of 1982, both released on June 25, have been eliminated. The Thing and Blade Runner go down.

Vote in the FINAL 4

E.T. the ExtraTerrestrial 70% - Blade Runner 30%
Conan the Barbarian 55% - The Thing 45%
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan 65% - Poltergeist 35%
First Blood 55% - Fast Times at Ridgemont High 45%

* Zapped! - Scott Baio & Willie Aames. Baio is a high school chem nerd who accidentally gives himself telekinetic powers. Hilarity ensues. Lots of boobs. Seeing Heather Thomas naked was a monumental moment in my life.
I just found out they used a body double.
