It's hard to put into words what I've just seen but I'll try. This honestly might be one of the best things I've ever seen on Tv ever. Normally I don't comment much on movies or tv shows but this one hits right close to the heart. It's raw, beautiful, and heart breaking. Daisy Edgar-Jones's performance is a tour de force. She will blow up big time. Just watch. Paul Mescal is incredible. Believe it or not, this is his first acting gig. It's one of the best love stories of all time. The chemistry between the two are mesmerizing. It feels like you're right there with them feeling their pain, their struggles as they grow up around each other. Their performance is a testament to the human spirit. This will stay with me for a long time.

Man, when this show resonates, it really, really resonates. I've never seen reactions quite like some of the reactions in this thread. So great to hear, and right there with you.

Personally, I think Ruffalo takes it. He's incredible in I Know This Much Is True.

My couple of posts on it over the run of the show in the HBO thread...

Quote:

Anyone else been watching I Know This Much Is True? It's from writer/director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines), is based on the novel of the same name, and the third of six episodes aired last night. Overall, I'm of two minds about it. On one hand, it's really, really, really good, with beautiful (if not haunting) cinematography, incredible acting, a sneaky good soundtrack, and some amazing Ruffalo-playing-both-twins work. But on the other hand... it's basically depression porn, as just about every tragic thing you can possibly imagine happens to the central family, to the point where it's kind of ridiculous and almost bludgeoning. And yet... I would still recommend it? If you're in the mood? At the very least, Ruffalo should have the Emmy in the bag. He's next level here. Curious to hear if anyone has given it a shot.

Just FYI, the series finale (episode six) aired last night and it was incredible. So glad I stuck with this show. Made all the tragedy worth it, IMO. Just an all-around phenomenal series.

Finally got around to watching this evening. Knocked it all out at once. This thread was a great companion piece and I appreciate the discussion.

I echo the feeling of this being more in the tone of a film vs. a television series. Before I read this thread, it reminded me of the Before Sunrise trilogy in a good way - which TCTTS called out.

Soundtrack was great. Acting was incredible. Just Beautiful.

I also watched The Great this week. Hulu has been the highlight of 2020 content for me.

Nice!

Yeah, this and The Great are one and two for me on the year, and both maybe even in my top five all time seasons of TV. Just incredible television. Between those two, Dave, High Fidelity, Ramy, and others, Hulu this year has been next level.

Just binged this over the holiday break. I can see how you either love or hate this. Count me in the love category. I've been thinking about it non-stop since I finished.

I will agree that I didn't fully understand the hate from her family but it didn't ruin it for me even though a little dive into that would've been nice.

The nonstop back and forth was infuriating but that's what kept drawing me back to watch the next episode.

I thought the acting was top notch...like super top notch.

As for the ending, I have a love/hate relationship with it. Of course I wanted to see them finally together so it killed me to see them go through all of this only to go different ways. But I also think them ending up together at that moment in time would have cheapened the whole series...and wouldn't have pulled such an emotional response out of me.

Lastly, why did Rick Dalton delete every single post in this 3 page thread? Made it hard to follow.

So I watched this show through the weekend, holy ****, this show knocked me over like a ton of bricks. Truly a masterclass in tv drama, a top five season of tv for me. If this show grabs you, it gets completely under your skin. Knocked the casting out of the park with Connell and Marianne, wow. As someone living with depression episode 10 was incredible, heartbreaking.

Minor gripes, all really based around Marianne's character development. I just don't think she was fleshed out quite as well as Connell. I would have like a lot more background on her and her family. Without more background so many of her decisions just don't make sense. Also when she got dressed up for the dance, we are led to believe no one, including her family, knew she was gorgeous? That was a little too She's All That to me.

Hard to believe it was just 12 half hour episodes, feels like it was such a longer story than that, it was that deep.

I'm 5 episodes in and this show triggers a LOT of emotions for me. Brings back tons of memories (good and bad) from a back and forth, on again/off again relationship I had for 3 years while I was at A&M. Wow. Wasn't expecting a TV show to bring up the feels like that. Emotions I hadn't felt in probably 15+ years. Some emotions I'm glad I'll never have to experience first-hand again, and some that I'm kinda sad I'll never get to experience again.
