Just pointing out, it's entirely different learning to play a difficult song on drums, or guitar for that matter, than it is to create it.
It's cool what he's done though.
Agreed in general but that he did ALL instruments and vocals himself.
I'll say it this way - there is not a single member of RUSH that could have done that. None of them could do the drumming except Neil and he couldn't do any of the guitar work, etc.
It's not the creative side - it's the performance side. Very impressive from that point of view.
I only somewhat agree.
The hard part about playing these types of songs live is having all 3 members hit all those transitions and the timings in general the first and only time.. like live at a concert (like the intro of spirit of radio). When you're tracking it (and likely doing multiple takes), that perfection doesn't have to exist, and you're just playing each individual part with multiple times to get it right. You'd never know if he did those in one take (the audio is not necessarily matching the video.. like concert dvds.) I doubt he did like the video may lead you to believe.
I have played guitar, bass and drums for 25 years. While I am a bit rusty, I bet I could pull that off with some practice, and some time with my studio gear. Maybe not that particular album or group of songs.. but a handful of rush songs. I'm a casual fan of rush, so I don't know some of those at all.
