Sam Rockwell
I wish he was everything. If he's in a future Star Wars movie or shows up on the Mandalorian, I can die a happy man.

Went to see the Way Way Back with my wife while we were dating. Rockwell is so nails in this movie, and he gets to dance.

Steve Carell was also great in this movie. About as far from his Michael Scott role as you can get.

Michael Biehn

Anyone who can go from beloved Space Marine (Aliens), to hated Navy Seal (Abyss), back to beloved Navy Seal (Navy Seals), to hated gunslinger, then back to beloved Navy Seal (The Rock) convincingly is an underrated actor.

Oh by the way, he also saved the planet from being overrun by Terminators.

Joel Kinnaman - watch The Killing. His character, Holder, is one of my all time favorites. He's been in some crappy movies though.

Jackie Earl Haley is underrated too. He's been around forever.
I like Kinnaman (and geez that dude works out) but I feel like he's always more or less the same character in everything I see him in (Altered Carbon, Robocop, Hanna, haven't watched The Killing).

Has he done anything a bit different?
I think he is pretty different from those roles in House of Cards.

Also played a great psychotic gunslinger (Tombstone). Great call

If you guys are going to list Turturro, Oldman, Rockwell, and Buscemi, then I add Ian McShane.

If you like Tim Roth or Gary Oldman, the two of them shined at a young age in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

Walton Goggins

If his name wasn't WALTON GOGGINS he would definitely be carrying the ball in more work.

As far as my response, I still think while Sam Rockwell gets credit, he's not THE GUY like he should be.

Also, Michael Sheen.

+Margo Martindale. She was great in The Americans and Justified. I'm sure more if I thought about it.

Ian McShane and Walton Goggins are two great picks.

But, I think Olyphant is just as impressive as McShane.

I would also throw Jack Black in here. He is every bit as funny as Galifinakis or Chappel, IMO, and always seems to steal the screen.

Finally, I am hoping for a comeback from Shia LaBeouf. I remember watching him in Even Stevens, and thinking he just had great comedic timing for his age. He obviously had problems recently, but he's still young enough to turn things around.

Sydney Greenstreet. My friends and I used to experience a phenomenon we called "The Greenstreet Effect" whereby every movie got exponentially more awesome when he made an appearance.

I also agree with the aforementioned Cillian Murphy and Gary Oldman.

No one sane thinks Gary oldman is underrated...he has so many awards that they have their own wiki page.

As far as Oscar winners go (which should absolutely not be allowed for the spirit of the OP) id agree Sam Rockwell is underrated. Walked out of Richard Jewell and people I was with loved him and had no clue who he was.

I'm going to submit Glen Powell.

I'll admit that I'm biased because he was in my favorite movie of the laST 5 years, Everybody Wants Some!!, which he absolutely stood out, but everything else I've seen him in, like Hidden Figures, he's been great in.

He's also going to be in the new Top Gun sequel, which I imagine will make him a household name, but for right now he's pretty underrated.

To the point that I actually didn't realize that was him when I was watching Altered Carbon

I agree with the earlier posters who mentioned William Fichtner and Steve Buscemi. David Morse is another one. He's been in a ton of movies and television shows and he always nails his performance.
