I celebrate his entire catalogue.

How many were with him at first release?

There's so many band-wagoners here when it comes to Simpson - which is fine. And I'm glad he can make a living, which obviously requires latecomers.

But let's not pretend like even a small minority of those who praise his talents possess the same level of fandom as those of us who have helped to spread his music for some time now.

Like me, you must be an early fan. I knew about Sturgill a little before you. I'm also a fan of Mark Ramon. You'll be hearing about him soon.

Does it matter if someone came on earlier or later? How about letting people enjoy someone's music without gatekeeping it by calling yourself a "true fan". It doesn't make you any more of a fan because you happened to like something sooner. Maybe someone didn't have a chance to hear his earlier stuff for whatever reason. Or maybe their tastes have changed over the years. Or maybe they didn't like his earlier stuff but like his new stuff. Whatever the case, fandom isn't some exclusive club reserved for those who happened to stumble upon an artist before other did.

I don't really care about any of this. Musicians are like jukeboxes to me. I want to feed them a quarter and have them spit out music I like. For Simpson that is country. If he's not doing that he might as well be garbage to me.

I'm happy he has fans of whatever persuasion. Simpson deserves to make a living at this. The point is that his most true fans have been with him since the very beginning, and appreciate his forays into different genres.

Sure, I understand that. But please give his latest release more time. It's layered, textured, and complex in a way that might take some more time to appreciate and understand than others.
