Every single character is a massive downgrade in looks across the board. Why are they fat? They missed the entire point of the original movie.

The 2004 Mean Girls will still exist after the remake comes out.
Why remake a movie if you're going to keep it 100% the same? Of course it's different. A Mean Girls where everyone isn't a white super model does make sense, and the character arcs will probably be different to reflect that.

She's the descendent of a Greek dynasty that has ruled egypt since Alexander the great. This dynasty has always kept its distance from the people, but cleopatra changed that. Embracing Egyptian customs and culture. This attracts support and power to her and, next thing you know, she's in a civil war with her brother for control of Egypt. He holds the capital, she's in hiding.
And that's the state of play when Julius Caesar lands on the Egyptian shores one day at the tail end of a 3-way Roman civil war. Caesar has chased his last rival to Egypt and he arrives to learn Cleo's brother had that rival killed on arrival, thinking it would please Caesar. But Caesar is pissed! He had planned to pardon the guy. And so Caesar marches into the capital and puts out word that he'd like to meet the other side of the civil war, he'd like to meet cleopatra.
Legend has it, cleopatra was rolled up in a rug and smuggled past her brother's hostile city guards by a rug merchant, then presented to Caesar. She impressed him with her ingenuity and an affair begins. Her brother is killed. She now rules egypt, and is attached to the new "first citizen" (basically first emperor) of Rome. She goes back to Rome with Caesar, and their newborn son.
Rome does not like cleopatra. Caesar had a wife and this isn't a great look! And then Caesar is killed. Cleopatra immediately shacks up with his old leiutenant, Marc Antony, and another 3-way civil war breaks out with Cleo, Marc Antony and Caesar's infant son as a faction.
But their faction loses. Julius's nephew Augustus Caesar wins and defeats Antony. Cleo and (I think) Antony die by snakebite rather than be captured.
Very epic. And yeah, lots of sex, violence, assassinations, and intrigue.

Underrated movie.
Cannot wait for this. The Abyss has somehow never been released on Blu-ray. Its last iteration was a 2009, 720p DVD, which is insane. Finally, though, we get a Cameron-aprroved 4K restoration, both in theaters on December 6th, and then on 4K Ultra HD later in December. Save for some of the effects, the image is so pristine in that trailer that it almost looks like it's advertising a new movie.

The Abyss is already one of the best looking movies ever. A 4k upgrade is just the cherry on top.

Dakota Johnson is a paramedic who can see the future because of a freak accident but her mom was involved in some kind of spider incident back in the day and so Johnson is called "Madame Web" for some reason but also Sydney Sweeney & friends are Power Ranger Spiders or something? Looks like The Abyss physical release got pushed back (theatrical is still December 6th), but at least they're finally all official now...
