Either a late 2020 or first half of 2021 release. Put it in 2020 for now in the OP...

Haha wtf? There's some really bad casting on this thread. This kid as He-Man and that other kid who looks like poor man's Justin Bieber playing Elvis? Hard pass.

This pic looks like an above average Zoolander outfit and Blue Steel

If a studio deal is nailed down in time, this could very well be another huge 2020 contender. Can you imagine also adding Chazelle to the list of 2020 director names I mentioned earlier?

Dune pushed back a month and December 18, 2020 suddenly became the biggest release weekend of the year next year. Surely one of these will balk, and I'm guessing it'll be Uncharted...

Gotta go Tenet #1, with Dune following very, very closely at #2. Bond #3. Eternals #4. That said, Top Gun: Maverick is up there with Tenet and Dune. Probably my real #2. Either way, 2020 could be one for the ages. Cannot wait.

Out of those 4 I'd probably go Dune

Amazingly at this point I'd probably put Bond last and by a mile. I'm hopeful they can redeem themselves but the news out of production so far hasn't been inspiring

If Villeneuve can deliver on his "Star Wars for adults" promise, Dune probably has the most potential. Nolan's toughest competition is himself, so it's definitely going to be a challenge for him to one-up Inception (in terms of his original efforts), but if he does, it probably takes the cake.

And yeah, I hear you on Bond. Though, I'm cautiously optimistic. We should be getting a trailer relatively soon (probably September), and can obviously make a better call then.

I'm nearing 50.

I don't think I've not seen a Bond movie in the theater since "The Spy Who Loved Me."

Guess which one I'm not going to miss.......

It's weird that there's no Avengers, Star Wars, or even a huge Disney or Marvel film coming out in 2020. (Except Mulan, which is not quite top tier.)

What's the biggest "brand-name" blockbuster on the dock for next year?

I'll be seeing Tenet, Dune, and Bond. Not sold on much of anything Marvel post-Endgame just yet.

At this point, I consider Nolan a "brand name" unto himself, so I'd put him somewhere at least in the top three next year. If not, though, I'd say it's either Black Widow, Bond, Top Gun: Maverick, or Untitled Fast & Furious 9.

I know it might seem like an off year to some, but next year is my most anticipated movie year in I don't know long. So many blockbusters right up my alley, and nearly every big-name director has a film coming out.

It's going to be glorious.

Honestly that was this year for me.

So, I'm a little underwhelmed about next year's slate. (Save of course for Tenet and Bond.)

Because of Endgame and Star Wars, I assume? What else from this year?
TCTTS

As of now, for me, I would break 2020 down like this...

Over-the-moon excited:
1. Tenet
2. Top Gun: Maverick
3. Dune

Excited:
- Babylon (Damien Chazelle)
- Bill & Ted Face the Music
- Bond 25
- The French Dispatch (Wes Anderson)
- Killers of the Flower Moon (Scorsese, DiCaprio)
- Mank (Fincher)

I'm sure will be fun / lower-level excited:
- Bad Boys for Life
- Black Widow
- The Eternals
- A Quiet Place 2
- Untitled Judd Apatow Comedy
- West Side Story (Spielberg)
- Wonder Woman 1984

Granted, at first glance, the second and third tiers appear to be somewhat "average." Though, again, so many amazing directors in that bunch. It's crazy. It's the top three movies, however, that truly set next year apart for me. I'm excited for each of those more than I could be for any Marvel or Star Wars movie. Each are once-every-five-years level of hype/anticipation, all somehow within six months of each other.

In fact, looking at the overall landscape years out, I have to say, this very moment in cinema is the most excited I've been in a long, long time. Probably since 2014 or so, when things like Interstellar and Star Wars were on the horizon (before we actually saw TFA and TLJ), knowing what was coming in the MCU, etc. Heck, even the DCEU was still full of potential and excitement back then.

But I can't remember being this hyped and hopeful since. Not only in terms of 2020, but Endgame was obviously an all timer, and then we have the end of the Skywalker Saga this year with Episode IX, along with Ad Astra, Joker, and a few other year really great-looking dramas and Oscar hopefuls over the next five months.

And then, 2021, for all of its sequels, seems like a ton of fun as well. We get a brand new Batman take from an amazing filmmaker, we get another Mission: Impossible movie from Christopher McQuarrie (and then another in 2022!), along with Thor: Love and Thunder, James Gunn's return with The Suicide Squad, and a ton more. Even the eye-roll-inducing sequels that year are at least interesting... a third Jurassic World with the original Jurassic Park cast, one last Indiana Jones with Harrison Ford, the first Avatar sequel... I can't say I'm particularly looking forward to any of those, but they'll at least be kind of "fun" to track.

Beyond that, 2022 begins the next iteration of Star Wars, the MCU heavy hitters likely return (Black Panther 2, GOTG3, Spider-Man 3), and, again, more Mission: Impossible, more Avatar, etc. It's not all going to be great, obviously, but it's definitely not going to be a bland next few years.

Add to that all the streaming services that will be releasing this year and next - and supplementing a lot of this material - at it really does feel like we're on the cusp of brave, new new cinematic world...

Quote:

one last Indiana Jones with Harrison Ford
Seeing how much I love those movies, I'm looking forward to this one. Not sure how Ford is actually going to pull off the physical aspects of this role, but movie magic can work wonders.

edit - but given how many failed attempts there were in bringing the last film to the screen (no matter its quality), I'll believe this one is coming once I start seeing on-set photos with Ford in the hat and leather coat ...

Rise of Skywalker
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
The Lion King
Endgame
Toy Story 4
The Irishman

Those were the big ones for me. But those first 3 especially.

Gotcha. It's weird, this summer has mostly been disappointments and bombs, but Endgame and Hollywood were two of my favorite summer blockbusters in years.

Agreed. I'd throw Far From Home in there as well.

And if you throw in Shazam, Aladdin, and Lion King, it's actually been a pretty solid summer, all things considered.
