Hmmm, even if its great, would it make enough money to justify its distribution in theaters? I'm old enough to have grown up on Madden-Summerall, and I like these actors, but I'm still only so-so on watching this.

Unless it's something like this, with a controversial/cancelled actor, I don't really ever see anyone in the industry commenting on DW movies. Hell, I didn't even know DW made movies until like a year or so ago, and have yet to see one in-full for myself. This one actually looks more professional/legit than I was expecting, but I do find the convenience of the plot to be a little eye-rolling. The one guy who can take down violent extremist Muslims, who just so happens to be giving a speech about the dangers of violent extremist Islam, is on campus giving said speech when violent extremist Muslims attack? Maybe there's more of a connective tissue there, and I'm not saying violent extremist Islam isn't a problem, but this plays more like a right-wing fever dream than anything else. But hey, the right should abolsutely be making more movies. I just wish they weren't so on-the-nose as this one seems.

Eh, the speech is the only eye-rolling part. Everything else is basically Good Guy Movie 101 and the most common trope there is.
So glad John McClane flew all the way across the country to be at Nakatomi Plaza the night it was being taken over by terrorists. Thank God Liam Neeson had all those skills, contacts, resources, and experience to save his daughter from human trafficking. Basically every Jason Statham movie the last few years is a shining example of the hero being the right guy for the job and in the right place at the right time.

Yeah, but that one extra coincidence is everything. In screenwriting, the general rule of thumb is that a script is allowed *one* major coincidence, which all of those examples you named fall under. All totally believable. Where this movie, and where those movies would get ridiculous is stacking a coincidence on top of a coincidence. If John McLane were also giving a speech on the dangers of terrorism, at Nakatomi Plaza, only to have Nakatomi Plaza be attacked by terrorists the very same day, that would be insane. Same would go for Liam Neeson's character giving a speech on the dangers of kidnappings, as kidnappers kidnap his daughter from the very location from which he's giving a speech on kidnappings. Which too would be the dumbest thing ever.
It's just... lazy writing, that's all.
Not to mention, it's even lazier that it's a character literally preaching at the audience. That's not to say what he's preaching about is wrong, it's just that there are far more effective, less on-the-nose ways to tell a similar story / communicate a similar message.
