The folks saying all the negative things about Jim Carrey are correct, and I agree with them.

But damnit this sucks....when I was younger I adored this guy. Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty and a slew of other films all came out at the perfect age for me and I thought this guy was the greatest!

Like a kick in the gut to see just how far off the deep end this guy has gone. What the hell happened?

At the risk of turning the thread political, Trump broke his brain.

while I agree that was the final straw, there seemed to be issues long before trump took office.

There was the whole anti-gun thing
I think he got in to Scientology for a bit
Campaigning AGAINST kick ass 2
His girlfriend dying and getting accused of obtaining drugs for her illegally
A lot of his answers/remarks in his interviews just seeming to be way out there

All this (and probably more I'm going completely off memory) happened before Trump.

The tendency on his board for people to get butthurt about a movie or show based on one of the actors political views is mind numbing. Tim Allen is staunchly conservative and I agree with little to nothing he says in his private life, but he's a good actor and my kids and I watch the Santa Clause every year. WHO CARES WHAT THESE PEOPLE BELIEVE. Pay attention to the product they are putting out, Is it good? Did it make you laugh? Did it entertain you? Then they did their job. Stop being so sensitive.

Does he go around preaching down to people who do not share his beliefs 100% and constantly spread hate and vitriol? Is he completely f'n psychotic? Did he make psycho hate filled paintings of Obama and his followers and tweet them out to millions of ppl?

Apples and oranges. Like we said...almost ALL of Hollywood is rabidly leftist. You literally couldn't watch any movies if you boycotted anything with hardcore leftists from top to bottom involved with the movie. It's the preachy hateful ones who inject their wacked out politics into everything we have a problem with.

Make sense?

Like I said before, I don't mind an actor preaching politics. But when they accept money for a movie with hundreds of people's livelihoods involved, shoot it, and then a couple weeks before go out and tell people to no see it because it doesn't agree with their politics, that person is a dBag of the highest order. That person shouldn't be making movies anymore.

There's nothing wrong with those who dislike actors or people in the film industry for their politics.

I compare it to this:

I have friends with different political views...but we're still good friends. The reason for this is because the different political views we share aren't constantly discussed, argued over, or pushed on to us.

The same can be said for those in Hollywood. I know darn well there's a lot of actors who I enjoy with different political views but I'll still pay to see their films....cause they don't use their political views to define their identity.

People like Jim Carrey (now anyways), go above and beyond, cross the line, and make their political opinions known when no one asked. It's like being at a party and having a fun conversation about NFL's greatest players, and then "that guy" walks up and uses that as a platform to start talking about how all the players were right to kneel and that Trump sucks.....you just want him to go away...everyone was having a fun time till you opened your mouth.

Jim Carrey (and others) are "that guy" when it comes to political BS and no one (repub or dem) likes "that guy."

What makes you think I'm sensitive? You're the one coming off as sensitive. Clearly bothered that we won't line up to put money in your psychotic boy's pockets.

If Hollyweird was constantly injecting preachy hard right politics into their movies, I guarantee some of you would be griping...or annoyed at the least. You'll never experience that though so it's all good.

This times a MILLION. It sucks the fun out of everything. It was fun when it was just Meryl Streep and maybe a few other self-righteous virtue signaling nutjobs back in the day. Now it's constant. To the point where I actually despise these people because they're bringing their preachy views (misguided imo) into sports and entertainment constantly...which used to unite people and be everyone's escapes from the harsh realities of life.

So f-ing annoying.

i couldn't imagine why else a Sonic the Hedgehog thread warranted 4 pages of discussion.

I just had this exact thought wondering about why this thread was getting so much attention. No matter what sonic looks like it will be another horrible video game movie.

Eh. If you think the movie looks good, watch it. If it looks dumb, don't. An actors politics shouldn't have anything to do with that. But that's just my opinion.

Yep...individual carbon foot print of 50 U.S. families...flying private, several mega mansions, numerous cars...and they try to screech about how the world will end if we don't start living more green friendly lifestyles. Ultimate hypocrites.

They'd be wise to just STFU and entertain us.

Based on the trailer in the OP, this is going to get a hard "don't."

I mean, I watched that trailer and I wanted to call them up to congratulate them on finally figuring out how to movies AIDS. As in not tell a story about AIDS, but make a movie that itself has AIDS. Amazing.

I actually dont like to jump into entertainment threads with politics because, well, my name, and because I come here to take a break from that stuff on the other forum.

But I can't resist pointing out the irony of your post here. I've bolded the part of your message that is literally what Tim Allen has been telling his Hollywood friends for 30 years essentially the "Flip side" of your statement here. Yet, just before this statement you said you agree with little to nothing he says.

It's not an accident that he has Jay Leno on his current show now. Both these comedians feel a need to push back against the lack of balance in entertainment when it comes to this stuff. Personally I think they are correct. Comedy, especially, is great when both sides get roasted.

And for the record. Allen is not staunchly conservative. He considers himself an economic conservative and socially liberal or at least "center-left" socially. He has described himself as a center-right person for two decades or more. Leno is Allen's center-left counterpart in some ways, he's economic conservative but a bit more socially liberal than Allen considers himself.
