Triumph debatable?

Unlike a lot of rock bands, Emmett actually sounds as good live as he does in the studio.
I like Rik's jazz catalog as much as his earlier Triumph work. Give Swing Shift and Ten Invitations From The Mistress of Mr. E a listen.

Was just my list ya'll... knew it would engender the usual debate. lol.

But just for the record - there IS an actual Canadian MUSIC HOF apparently - and Triumph was inducted in 2008.

Rush also of course in 1994.

And others on my debatable - April Wine and Loverboy are in. Since theirs is not "rock" specific it kinda explains why some others are in - kd lang and Gordon Lightfoot and tragically hip and Sarah M. and barenaked ladies.

I don't know how I could have forgotten Corey Hart (I wear my sunglasses at night) - he's in too.

Nickelback is not - yet - nor is Arcade Fire, Our Lady Peace, New Pornographers or Cowboy Junkies.

Amazingly Steppenwolf is not in the Canadian RR HOF either - wow - what a snub. I get it for the US one but geez come on Canada.

I like Triumph but come on... they don't have a deep catalog. 10 total albums none since 1993 and only really 2-3 really good albums. Only 1 even went platinum in the US. 10-12 really good songs. their window was narrow really like 1980-83 when they were a top act or concert draw.

I saw them in concert twice and I really like them but they aren't HOF material here for sure - in Canada yeah I suppose if you want more than 10 inductees.

Say goodbye, ordinary man. I'll never surrender.

Personally, I love Geddy's singing voice, though not as much on most of their 70's albums....I prefer the more mature, toned down version of the 80's and later. His voice and their style are so unique, there is no guessing when you hear one of their songs as to who it is.

Just off the top of my head, some of my favorite songs as far as Geddy's singing:

The Pass
Ghost of a Chance
Time Stand Still
Secret Touch
New World Man
Marathon
The Big Money
Dreamline
Far Cry

Wow ZJS. You just laid it on the line. All of it.

Lol

Well you've got to fight the good fight when you have an opportunity every moment. Me, I live for the weekend.

Wait, is Loverboy Canadian?

Well....this is strange......

"Working for the Weekend" - is Loverboy.... and maybe you thought "every moment" was a reference to "Lovin Every Minute of It"....but it was not.

But I was referencing

"Fight the Good Fight" and "I Live for the Weekend" - both by Triumph

But YES... Loverboy is also from Canada.

So although your songs were mixed up - the answer to your question is Yes.

Man, them Canadians love the weekends.

The line I was thinking of is

Quote:

Fight the good fight every moment
Every minute every day
Fight the good fight every moment
It's your only way
But yeah, I was thinking "livin'" instead of "workin'" for the weekend.

He'll yeah they do. It's when they can get a case of beer and go ice fishing.

Now that's just an unfair stereotype.....

some of them go Skiing, play Ice Hockey, and go Curling too.

I always wondered what would've become of Rush if they had added Rick Emmet to sing.

well some company got Emmet to come in and do this virtual recording - taking Peart's drums with his vocal and guitar and did Red Barchetta.

It's interesting to me but not better per se.....he may sing better but the vocals for Rush are so ingrained as Getty's voice that it's just different to me. No idea what it would have been like if the originls were done with him though.

Also Rik did record this song "Human Race" a few years ago with Alex Lifeson on guitar. It's interesting but not great.

I just love this whole thread. Rush & Iron Maiden are my top two bands of all time. And I'm a big Triumph fan as well. Good stuff.

I think you're understating them a little. They have at least 50 songs that are good to great that never got airplay. Prob not gonna get into Cleveland but they were a great band.

Here's some that you may not have heard that I love.

This is a guy hearing Hemisphers for the first time. If I remember correctly, it brings him to tears at one point..... In a good way, haters.

The explanation at the end sums it up perfectly. That album still does that to me and I've listened to it hundreds of times. It's like sex.

I am going to say their best was from the 1st album pre-Neil with "Working Man" and closing out an incredible run with one from the final album with "The Garden" and "2112" sandwiched in between.

I started listening in '75 and have also seen them 13 times.
