I enjoyed it. But like others have noted, seems like there were some pretty quick fixes that would have made it better.
Pascal's character was essentially a waste. He could have just defaulted to the persona of Javi on Narcos and it would have been much better.
It was difficult for me to digest the decision process made by the operators and in particular Affleck's character. No, no chance I'll do this. Ok, I'll do it. We stick to the plan, down to the minute, or we abort the mission. Let's stay longer and get more money. No chance we engage, we just haul ass. Ok, let's kill them all. Hey, if we try to fly this helicopter over the Andes with this payload we'll crash and we'll all die. I hear you, F it let's do it anyway. Well, we crashed the helicopter, we need to haul ass out of here or we die. True, but let's get some mules and oh yeah, basically mountain climb a truckload of cash over the Andes, that same load the helicopter couldn't carry.
But the biggest head scratcher to me was the ending. They somehow manage to get all this money over the Andes, the beach is in site, but let's only hike out what we can fit in our little backpacks and throw the rest in a hole. So you're willing to risk death at every point so far but now it's run for your life? Why wouldn't each guy at least take one of the bags? They humped all of this across a mountain range but go conservative at the very end? Worst case scenario they just dump the bags if they have to.
I did like that they all gave their portion to Affleck's family. That was a good end to it.
Oscar Isaac was the strong suit in this for me. I hope they make a sequel where he goes back to retrieve what they left behind.
