Hearts Beat Loud is a great comparison. Definitely of the same ilk, but yeah, the music in this definitely isn't on the same level (or featured as prominently) as in HBL. Still, both movies are close to the top of my summer '18 list.
Being on or off topic has nothing to do with whether or not people have strong, gut reactions. People had PLENTY of strong, gut reactions regarding the last Star Wars movie, but they were clearly on topic. You and others think that the political activism of actors, directors, and producers is off topic, while I and others think it is on topic. You and my opinion on that doesn't matter. Only that of TexAgs staff matters in that context, and they have rebuked you in the past when you tried to declare such things as off topic.TCTTS said:
In general, people don't have strong, gut reactions to things like budget, cast, sequel potential, etc (unless we're talking Star Wars, of course). They do when it comes to politics, which can derail a thread in a heartbeat. Talk of budget, cast, sequel potential, etc, by its very nature, is staying on topic.

And yes, I'm fully aware that I'm responsible for this thread being derailed more than it otherwise would have. Again, at this point, I'm making a conscious choice to do so here in order to address the fact that unwelcomed political crop dusting is increasingly happening in myriad other threads as well. Again, I might add, by just a handful of stubborn posters who are feeding off each other. You guys can keep talking free speech all you want, but the vast majority of posters on this board don't want political talk constantly popping up in the most random places.
Didn't read the whole thread but I can state that your request is impossible for some people. It's probably always been this way and only seems worse now, but there are some people that are so wrapped up in a political identity that everything in their world view is flavored by politics. Nothing can be separated from politics, and everything can be framed with a political slant - to them.TCTTS said:
You keep trying to make it an issue of me (and others) wanting to stomp out your opinion or your political leanings. This isn't a conservative/liberal thing. For the hundredth time, it's not about being on opposing sides of the isle. I'm not saying "Don't post that because I disagree with you." I'm literally saying that I don't give a sh*t which side you're on, let's leave ALL political talk out of a thread about a romantic comedy. It's just astounding how you KEEP putting words in my mouth and making these broad generalizations.

Hey TCTTS, there's an ignore function for a reason. If someone is annoying you by speaking their mind or going off your script, put 'em on ignore. Go ahead and try it out on me.
Edit: And I can ignore you and we can live happily ever after!

I'm just looking out for you health TCTTS. You seem to have spent more time in this thread about a movie, shouting at people to talk about the movie only, than actually spent watching the movie.TCTTS said:
Btw, I have absolutely no issue with you. Frankly, I don't even know what you've said / haven't said. But you're probably not seeing this anyway, so who cares.

Have fun missing a great movie with absolutely nothing "injected" into it, save for heartwarming laughs, interesting character dynamics, good music, and a fun, unique plot featuring a great cast.
LET ME SPEAK REALLY SLOWLY YET AGAIN...TCTTS said:
You guys do realize that by this logic, you should be avoiding 95% of all movies/TV?
If you change like 2-3 words, it seriously sounds like you're talking about Hollywood, the NFL, ESPN etc.TCTTS said:
And that ******* sucks. It used to be easy to ignore, but it's become so prominent here, and is infesting seemingly every last thread, that's it's just not even remotely fun anymore. I guess it's worth it for those who feel it imperative to continue to ruin innocuous conversation with their incessant need for everyone to know not only where they stand politically, but where everyone else does as well.

I do not inject politics into every thread. That's just the only time you notice my posts I guess. Have a good day.

Places that used to be escapes for everyone and bring people together. Sad that these hateful self-righteous drama majors are ruining it for a lot of people. When someone all but announces that they despise you and everything you believe...kind of makes you not want to line up to give them money.
Thanks for the heads up. I will skip further Avenger movies.TCTTS said:Wycliffe_03 said:Judd Apatow hates you and thinks you and your family are stupid, but you should stand in line to give him money because he financed a nice little playful rom-com.TCTTS said:

- Chris Evans despises Trump with a passion and is extremely vocal about that fact on Twitter. He can't fathom how anyone voted for the man, and would likely tell that to your face.
- Mark Ruffalo is one of the most vocal liberals in Hollywood, and is an anti-fracking activist to boot. I'm sure he hates my father, and any others who frack for a living as well.
- Scarlett Johansson constantly attends feminist rallies and is known to despise the right. That, and she's also an annoying vegan who judges people who eat meat.
And yet, I bet you paid to see Avengers: Infinity War. Or any other number of Marvel movies, for that matter. What about movies in general, where most people of influence share the exact same thoughts as Apatow or the above? Never mind the myriad other stars of Marvel movies who have been outspoken in the same regard.
My point is, it's pure hypocrisy to pick and choose which movies you do and don't see based on this ridiculous rule of yours. That, and again, you'd literally be boycotting most Hollywood content if you were actually acting with any kind of true conviction.
In other words, your grand statements like this are nothing more than message board fodder for you to spout off a political opinion out of some misguided sense of identity.
That's where the disagreement lies. You think that it "clearly doesn't belong". We think it "clearly belongs". That's the whole point.TCTTS said:Wycliffe_03 said:If you change like 2-3 words, it seriously sounds like you're talking about Hollywood, the NFL, ESPN etc.TCTTS said:

You say this as if I or anyone else has any control over that. Or as if their actions are FORCING you to retort on a message board. Still, post all you want about it on this board. Just keep it out of thread where it clearly doesn't belong. That's all I'm asking.
Most of us will check out on a thread, like this one, when it turns to the politics BS that has nothing to do with the actual movie. It's a damn shame as I find a lot of good movies suggested on here that I probably would've missed otherwise but I can't stomach the useless back & forth like what has destroyed this thread.TCTTS said:
And I'd bet if you polled the board, at least 75% of them would say it doesn't belong, as evident by the general reaction over the years to random political posts in random, non-dedicated threads.

Yep. I want to be entertained, not beat over the head with closed minded political opinions on EITHER side of the aisle.Hagen95 said:You've turned into an old man, Dr. Cub.Junkhead said:Most of us will check out on a thread, like this one, when it turns to the politics BS that has nothing to do with the actual movie. I just remember all your trolling threads on the original general board ( when that was all there was), and now you lament a thread with useless back and forth destroying a thread.Junkhead said:Yep. I think what those 75% really hate is the back and forth like this that makes it go on for 5 pages. If there were a couple posts here and there warning about some BS political angle and that were it, then almost nobody would care. But it's when you guys start arguments about "go back to the political board with the rest of your fellow whack jobs" or whatever that it turns into something like this thread.TCTTS said:
