The movie itself hits on February 15th, two weeks from this coming Thursday.

Reviews drop next Tuesday, February 6th at noon EST.

The first social media reactions hit TONIGHT at 1:00 AM EST, just after the West Coast premiere.

Figured it was best to start a new thread for posting reactions alone, as to not clog up the main Marvel thread (no spoilers either, just general reactions), and that it was time to splinter this movie off into its own thread anyway.

I've seen some speculation that it could potentially rake in even more at the box office than Infinity War. A tall order, no doubt, but this is honestly starting to feel like it could be black Star Wars, i.e. the biggest (and first?) blockbuster featuring a predominantly black cast, and I think that's the big x-factor here. We've never seen what happens when the black community turns out in full for something as big as this, in addition to all the other Marvel fans. Early tracking has it in the $120-150M range opening weekend, but I'm thinking more along the lines of $175M potentially.

Either way, I can't wait, and will start posting reactions tonight as soon as they hit...

New trailer coming with Super Bowl as well. Really excited for this and the effects it could have on Infinity Wars

Really liked the character in Civil War and can't wait to see this one. I expect it to see serious box office traffic - name a Marvel movie that hasn't - but can't really see it out-performing Infinity War.

I think they stuck it Feb because it's going to lead right into IW in some important ways. They might've have also stuck it there originally because of it not yet being a tent pole franchise, but that likely will change soon.

I wonder if the very thing you're talking about - namely the full on support and momentum of the black community behind this character/franchise/world - won't actually push IW higher. Imagine the recognition that the new-to-the-MCU fans will have after seeing BP when there are sweeping shots of Wakanda in the existing or upcoming IW trailers. That new audience plus your "Avengers fans" plus your MCU diehards might push IW over the top.

Either way....a solid 6 months for The Mouse with TLJ, BP, IW.

Both great points. Also, not only has President's Day Weekend been the first big box office weekend of the year for well over a decade (there's almost always a big release or two that weekend), but February is obviously Black History Month as well. Marvel's strategy here has absolutely nothing to do with any kind of lack of faith on their part or treating February as a dumping ground. Quite the opposite, actually.

The biggest opening weekend Disney has ever had for a February release is $31 million for Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert.

You're telling me the black audiences didn't turn out for that one???

Those are not surprising reviews to see out, considering the racial makeup of the movie. No one wants to be the guy to come out and say one of the first real black superhero movies is bad, or mediocre. The mob at large would just label him a racist.

However, I liked the character and the actor, and I think there are a lot of other pretty good actors in this, so I am very optimistic.

Just my opinion as far as how seriously to take any of these reviews, is all.
