Tbh, I've watched this movie many times and never with the rifftrax. I find new ways to enjoy it every single time.

I love rifftrax, but rifftrax is better for sad crappy movies like the Notebook or a River Runs Through It

My wife and I have seen it so many times we can have whole conversations in dialogue from the movie.

As a matter of fact, no, we don't have very many close friends. Why do you ask?

Saw a trailer for The Room once that billed it as a dark comedy, but I'm quite certain that was only decided AFTER everyone was making fun of it for being so bad. I think it was meant to be a serious drama. But the drama is so bad, so uh... yes that's what we intended, it's a dark comedy..

It's pretty clear Tommy meant it as a modern Tennessee Williams melodrama. All the fake critics' quotes Tommy used in the initial PR (misspelling Tennessee) hyped it as a drama.

What makes the Room fascinating is that you can see his vision there. He dropped in comic relief moments like Mike/Michelle and the male bonding moments to break up the tension. You see what he was going for..and you see how every decision he made was wrong or poorly executed.

Ok, I had not heard about this. I'm watching this video and I can't stop laughing. This is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

If this gets enough stars to show interest, I'll start a thread

So what was his vision? That's not at all clear to me.

Seems to me he was trying to make the next great American melodrama - a love triangle rife with sex and betrayal. He thought he was the next Tennessee Williams. The screenplay follows some basic structure rules...but like everything in The Room, it's in the execution that it goes off the rails. He edited the scenes out of order. The dialogue makes no sense. Characters introduce topics or plot lines that are never mentioned again. It's fails at every level.

There also had to have been a woman who betrayed left him at some point, and this was basically his version of events as every character tells Lisa how amazing Johnny is, what a good provider he is, how he takes care of Denny and she betrays him for no reason.

1) River Runs Through It isn't a crappy movie
2) rifftrax for the room are amazing.

I think my favorite thing to learn about his weirdness wasn't that he paid for 2 camera crews to shoot on standard film and HD video, but that he owned a building in San Fran with great views from the roof in real life, yet filmed the rooftop scenes on the worst green screen ever seen.

From conception - "we need this flower shop scene" to dialogue that makes no sense (reaches offscreen for a dozen flowers "that's me") to execution (6 seconds of slow parking then boom boom boom hot and tight hilarious lines). It's gold

To be fair, they needed to do that for continuity because he needed so many takes. The sun would be all over the place in the same scene.

Greg Sestero said on HDTGM that he built the rooftop green screen scene set OUTSIDE in the parking lot. Why film green screen OUTSIDE?? Every decision he made was wrong.

The craziest thing about the 2 cameras is that he bought them. Everyone rents cameras because technology changes so often but he bought them. Crazy.

A friend gave us a beautiful silver frame for a wedding gift with a picture of a spoon in it in honor of the room. We haven't changed the photo.

Wow. That was... something.

So random that it became such a cult hit. I mean it's bad but I don't think if I randomly saw it I would go around telling people "You've GOT to see this!!!"

The constant football tossing was perhaps the best part to me.

We are still kicking ourselves that we forgot to get the groom and his groomsmen tossing the football on the roof before our wedding. Sorry, Guitarsoup, that would have been one for your office wall.

Scheduled for release in December. What is taking so long? Filming ended 18 months ago. They've already screened it at SXSW in March. Is this normal?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's not about how long something like this takes. It's about releasing when it'll get the most exposure, when the studio doesn't have another movie that time of year, etc. There are countless factors that go into a movie's release date beyond when it's technically "ready" to go.

Thanks.

But seriously my desires and impatience should come before the distribution company's profits.

Hollywood loves movies about Hollywood, so you release it in Oscar season so that it's fresh on everyone's mind and Seth Rogen can get that Oscar he so rightly deserves

I know Hollywood loves stroking it's own ego, but you don't actually think this is a Hollywood jerk off and they're planning on going for awards do you?
