Sounds like post credit scene is a cool but won't post the spoilers. I stumbled across it looking up some spider man backstory on Wikipedia. I wouldn't watch this movie because it sounds like garbage to me but it sounds mildly interesting for spidey fans.

Some strong praise so far!

Bear with me here; Venom the movie is an actual "turd in the wind." Chop off its legs thanks to a weak first act. Lose the arms because every single supporting character is essentially worthless. The head obviously has to go because Venom is pretty brainless. And, not for nothing, but that leaves us with the heart (or for the sake of this visual, the torso) of the movie, the Venom and Eddie relationship, a component that's just going where the wind takes us in this downright wacky comic book adaptation.

Venom isn't quite bad, but it's not exactly good either. It's noncommittally mediocre and, as a result, forgettable. It just sort of sits there, beating you numb, unsure of whether it wants to be a comic-book movie or put the whole idea of comic-book movies in its crosshairs.

It is bad. Not fun bad. Not so-bad-it's-good-bad. Just painful.

Just got out of the theater. I give it a C+. The movie itself was fairly weak, but by the end I liked the combo of Tom Hardy and Venom. I'd like to see more of him in this role. I laughed a couple of times where maybe I wasn't supposed to, but there also some really cool visuals.

I'll say I liked it better than the first two Thor movies.

And much better than Fant4stic.

Just got out and agree on the c+. Some good moments, some fun moments.

Overall it seemed like they couldn't decide on an origins story or an intruduction story and walked between both.

End credit scene got an applause from me, but the rest of the theater was confused

Saw it with my 10 year old, he sang is praises. "Venom was awesome! Much, much better than I expected!"

I though it was marginal. Ok popcorn flick, but probably not for the comicon elitists.

Went last night, and the comments about the film not knowing what it wants to be are spot on. It's like they wanted Deadpool but only kind of in certain spots.

As a Spider-Man fan Venom's look makes no sense without him having bonded to Spider-Man first. Removing Venom from Spidey makes it some other movie.

If you do go see this, STAY FOR THE ENTIRE CREDITS. Wow.

It was so slow at the beginning. Once it picked up it was too late for me at least. Meh....

I really enjoyed it. If the sequel is what I think it's going to be, I'm all in. It started out slow, but the action was great. The Brock/Venom relationship was good too.

I actually enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. It's not good, but I was entertained. And like most everyone, I liked the Venom-Eddie relationship and thought Venom was pretty funny.

That's not Carnage. It's some symbiote from the comics called Riot, which basically looks just like Venom

I don't think they roll out Carnage in this one. It would be a mistake in my opinion, as he is a big enough villain to have his own story and movie. Maybe that's what they plan on doing in a crossover with Tom Holland and Marvel? Although Carnage is awfully dark for the MCU's Spidey.

Remember that Woody Harrelson is in this too and they haven't even shown him in the trailers. Seems like a pretty good Cletus Kasady/Carnage to me

Nailed it...

Also,

Love Woody and think he's a perfect Carnage, but holy crap that wig was the most laughable thing I've ever seen. Who signed off on that!?

So it looks like it had a pretty strong opener. Makes me feel better that they won't scrap the Tom Hardy/Venom combo.

Only cost $100 million, so profits will be big on this one.

Curious about what the drop will be this week. First Man will take over IMAX screens and Bad Times at the El Royale has been getting great reviews and has a similar audience. I'm predicting a pretty big drop, but it's already assured to be a financial hit for Sony.

Caught Venom yesterday...glad the tickets were free.

Venom was one of my favorite characters when I read a lot of Spider-Man comics 20-odd years ago, so part of this had the Justice League factor, where I was just happy to see him on screen looking the part (especially after that Spider-Man 3 iteration). I'd expect the 13-year old, comic book nerd version of me would've been stoked the whole time but adult me, especially after the quality of movies Marvel put out across the MCU and seeing Tom Hardy in other great roles, was underwhelmed. Then again, this is probably meant for the 13 year old crowd more than mid-thirties anyways. Overly cheesy for what could be a dark, complicated character. I was surprised how much I didn't miss the Spider-Man connection and I thought the Eddie/Venom stuff was pretty good...so there's a couple of wins, I suppose.

Hopefully the inevitable second one will make better use of the talent on-deck with Hardy and Harrelson (lose that godawful wig, though) and a better script/story.

I can confirm your thoughts here. I thought it was just ok, my 13 year old and his friends now have venom at or near the top of all marvel characters.

Same here. Better than i expected after all the negative things i'd read leading up to the release. The pacing was pretty bad, especially in the beginning, and there were a couple of plot hole-y, eye roll type moments. But all in all, I enjoyed it. I think it was a decent setup for what could be an awesome sequel.

I thought it was funny that they changed the way Jenny Slate pronounces "symbiote" in the movie after everyone lost their mind when the original trailer was released.

While I didn't hate it, it was a textbook example of "meh" for me. Nothing about it stood out. Story, performances, etc were all just "ok" for me.

I was decently entertained throughout, but it's not one I'm interested in ever watching again, or I'll probably ever think about again.

Where I parked my car. Not amazing by any means but it was very entertaining when the symbiote and Eddie finally started interacting regularly.

Symbiote's sense of humor was on point.

Yeah. That was the one thing that I think would play well with the rest of the spider Man universe.

If you like the genre I see no reason to not see it.

It's entertaining by every measure of the word. I'd put this above DS, Antmans, and the first 2 Thors.

Um, no, no, and no. And then probably.

Venom was fun but also kind of a mess and rather forgettable, doesn't touch any of the of the Marvel films from a narrative level and I thought Doctor Strange and especially both Ant-Man films were really engaging. But to each their own I guess.

Just got out. Surprisingly good to me. Not sure why it's being panned as much as it is. I thought it was above average, but not fantastic.
