Ha. We're EIGHT MONTHS out on this one. Anyone wanting/expecting more at this point doesn't understand how marketing typically works. This was the perfect tease. I like what I saw. The cast, the tone, the look... I'm in. And this is coming from someone who finds the whole conceit a little ridiculous / could not care less if it didn't "convey" Eddie Brock. At this point, how could that possibly matter? Again, we're EIGHT MONTHS out. This is meant to be nothing more than a visual announcement letting people know that a Venom movie exists and will be in theaters a long ass time from now.

I feel like it could've given us a little something though.

I don't mind not seeing Venom and I generally like the more obscure approach, but I'd love to have seen a bit of symbiote creeping onto his finger or something. Just give me a tiny bit more indication of where this is heading.

Almost no chance this Venom is Eddie Brock, right?

I hear you, but there was a shot of a crashed meteor/ship or whatever that was and then a shot of the symbiote in a canister (that Riz Ahmed's character is looking at). That was enough for me. The implications were pretty obvious.

It could be seen crawling up his neck when he's having the "episode" or whatever on the table, wearing the gown. Just barely.

That was the most generic/bland teaser trailer ever

There is a difference between a teaser that doesn't give much away, and just a bad trailer. That one was both.

Yeah, I think I'm finally coming around to the trailer being a bit of dud. I didn't want to join the chorus this morning, but having watched it a couple times more and talking to couple people about it as well, I think my tune has changed. I still think the movie itself has a lot of potential, and I like the look in general, but I agree that the trailer itself is generic to a fault.

Didn't they get finished shooting pretty recently? Venom scenes have to be real heavy on the cgi, perhaps none of them ready for a trailer.

Yeah, like a couple weeks ago, if that. Seems like they could have easily held off with the marketing until Infinity War in May.

Despite my love for Spider-Man I'm still just not feeling this yet. Hope it turns out okay.

I don't think it was terrible, but I don't think it was good. However, it was a teaser. The only thing I was looking for was the tone. And it looks exactly how I wanted it to. I was hoping for a serious feel and less of the corny comic feel that the other films are filled with. This looks like it will deliver that.

I'm actually glad there was no venom shown. We have some time. I want to enjoy the build-up.

2 thing... wish Tom would have used the words WE in the monologue for the trailer... and as the trailer went along, his voice should have changed and got deeper and more menacing.... also, the symbiote should have no spider qualities... from the comics, it learns from its previous host, so part of the reason venom looks the way he does is because he was a part of Spider-Man been joining with Eddie... hmmm

So let me guess:

Since this movie seems to take place in San Francisco (?), that means we'll be seeing a tour group in one scene and it'll be Parker's Debate Team on a field trip to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Thereby fulfilling Sony's obligation to shoehorn Spider-Man into this movie.

Yeah it sucks not having Venom with Spidey but I don't think Carnage would fit into the MCU properly. I hope this Venom movie is R rated because that's the only way to show how crazy Carnage is.

I do agree with that. Carnage is hard R territory.

Have no qualms about Sony doing side movies with Spidey characters as long as:
1) they don't suck like all the previous Spidey movies since SM-3
2) The Sony Movie Universe runs parallel with MCU so characters like Venom can jump back and forth across both movie universes

I'm opposed to Sony stealing my favorite Spider-Man villains, but Woody as Carnage has some STRONG potential.

But still... id rather see the old cartoon episode on film. Venom is in prison with Cletus and accidentally creates Carnage. Mordo helps them escape. Spider-Man is attacked by them both but fends them off with the help of War Machine. WM's suit is damaged but eventually Spider-Man and Iron Man work together (with a morally-conflicted Venom, perhaps?) to stop Carnage and Mordo from summoning Dormammu.

That's some next-level crossover potential that you burn by leaving half the Spider-Man universe in Sony's hands. And I weep for the day that the Sony deal ends and they take the revitalized Spider-Man character back, only to waste him again.
