in terms of full potential, sure its a loss. But the Spidey-verse is expansive enough to be self sufficient anyway.

Regardless the crossover type movies(i.e. Venom vs Iron Man) would be at least 20-30 years away anyway. So its not likely that those movies would be made regardless.

But it should be simple enough to where if its a Spiderman movie, it'll be MCU. whereas if its a Spidey-verse character, its Sony's but Spidey is always present.

I really, really wish Disney could somehow get control of all of these characters away from Sony and Fox.
I like x-men right where they are.

I'd like to keep Mutants and superheroes separate but IMO it's a shame that Spider-Man characters and the Fantastic Four (and all their great villains) are separate, or have legal loopholes.

This movie must be amazing. Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, and now Woody Harrelson? That's a hell of a cast...

Would the Disney/Fox thing affect this movie?

Ah never mind it's Sony, isn't it?

A hell of a cast for a character that is worthless without Spider-Man (if they are still insisting on going that route).

Just make Spider-Man 3 canon, but quickly move on from it to do the Flash Thompson Venom story. It's good enough to work without Spider-Man.

So I know a little about Venom, and I think everyone agrees, he's one of the coolest characters Marvel has.

He's usually regarded as a bad guy, but clearly, he's going to be good in this? Is he more of a hero now?

And who is the villain? Carnage?

I know I shouldn't get excited about this movie because of Sony, but dang that poster is awesome. I'm looking forward to the trailer tomorrow! Really hoping to see my favorite comic book villain done the right way

He's an anti-hero. He's teamed up with Spider-Man in the comics to take down Carnage. Not sure who the movie villain will be. There's also a rumor going around that Tom Holland will make an appearance in the movie as well.

Also I watched a bit of Spider Man 3 the other day... Topher Grace has to be one of the worst casting decisions in history. btw that movie is so much worse than I remembered, and I remembered it being horrible.

I know next to nothing about Venom as well - only what I've seen from Spider-Man 3 - but yeah, it looks like Venom is the anti-hero in this iteration.

I don't know who Carnage is, but I just did some digging and he's apparently not in this. Riz Ahmed looks to potentially be the villain, though, as he's playing "Dr. Carlton Drake." From an excerpt I found: "The Lethal Protector comic series has already been confirmed by Tom Hardy to be the source material for the upcoming movie and Dr. Carlton Drake has a big part in the series. Drake is the leader of the Life Foundation, the group looking to tap into Venom's power and replicate it."

I still can't get over the cast for this thing... Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, and Woody Harrison. All in a VENOM movie?! So random, and I'm so curious to see the first trailer tomorrow.

The life foundation tries to take venom and replicate his symbiote and they make 5 different siblings... carnage is another off spring of venom, he is rumored to be the villain in the movie as well played by the character Cletus Cassidy ... the reason for this rumor is because of the first title was Venom:carnage and Tom hardy put a tweet out with a picture of venom with carnage in the background and then quickly the tweet was taken down...

Horrible. Just horrible.

There is precisely ZERO in that entire trailer that would even let the most knowledgeable Marvel fan know who the f*** this movie is really about.

Take out the Marvel logo at the beginning and the movie title at the very end and no one would know what this movie is. And that is not a good thing.

I really hope the REAL trailer is much better than this crap was.

You know what this movie could be? It could be the sequel to the movie "Life" where the alien creature made it to earth and attached itself to Tom Hardy.

The trailer used recycled footage from Spider-Man 3, so that was a popular theory at one point.

That looks like a crappy version of Life. Nothing about that TEASER is good.

lol you guys are ridic. I'd rather every trailer be like this than the overwrought spoil everything banaza we see today (ie - Black Panther.) It did enough to convey the tone and showcase Ed Hardy as Eddie Brock. I'm in and will be content to not see anything else from the movie until release day.

Nothing says "disgraced journalist who bonds with an alien parasite to attack Spider-Man and protect the innocent" like motorcycles and laboratories. Can't wait!

Also, teasers blow.

Really? How? How did it do ANYTHING to convey that this was indeed "Ed" Hardy as Eddie Brock? Seriously, what did it do to convey any tone or clues as to who the hell this was?

Eddie Brock is a disgraced news photographer in New York. This was a guy walking through the streets of San Francisco and then lying in an MRI machine. How were we supposed to connect the dots as to this being Eddie Brock?

Nope, not buying it yet. Sure, some trailers may show too much, but this is a big nothing burger with vague narration.

oh sorry, did my opinion of the 90 second teaser get your panties in a wad?

Yea, I felt like I know all I need to about this film. I got to hear Eddie describe the catalyst of transformation (via tragedy or pain) and I got see him brood and drive a motorcycle. He's a badass. That's all I was curious about. The trailer wasn't the greatest thing ever but it showed the serious tone it's going to have and I'm in. I love they didn't show Venom because it's the lowest hanging fruit.

But please, continue to pout about a movie you're going to see!

Ahh i see. You're a comic purist.

It's a valid concern (from a character standpoint), but it has little influence on the quality of the actual film we could get. A different venom is inherently a 'bad' venom. Nailing the hardcore violence and brutality of the character is more important to me than nailing the comic origination script. (We got that in SM3 and it was dreadful)
