EDIT: I removed the apparently non-obscure bands as they were derailing the thread. Grizfolk and The Gray Havens are awesome.

you must want them to be the only bands on the radio. both of those bands are played non-stop on mainstream radio and XM.

I guess that I just listen to the wrong stations. As I don't ever remember hearing the Strunbellas on air, and I've only heard stations play AWOLNATION's Sail, but they have played that song a lot.

One fine day, you will go to college and discover actual bands and musicians with talent. I admit, I listened to some crap pop music in high school myself.

These folks you listed are about as far from 'obscure' as it gets.

In the meantime, feel free to check out The Brian Jonestown Massacre's back catalog from the 90's and early aughts if you'd like to hear actual 'obscure' music.

I'd say he's not obscure, but I live in Austin. I hear him all the time. I'd guess you get out of this area and he's fairly obscure.

Kids These Days - Vic Mensa was the rapper in this band circa 2011-12 and Donnie Trumpet was on the trumpet who works with Chance the Rapper a lot and is a part of The Social Experiment. They were all in high school at the time.

He plays repeatedly here in COMO.

He is playing one of the summer festival nights again in June
