I really enjoyed this show.

The director addressed the ending in the post-credit episode review. The last few seconds of the finale was the detective watching the women on the beach through binoculars. In his words, his intention there was some closure achieved in the story but not full closure. He wanted to give the idea that there is still an ongoing investigation i.e. suspicion that more intent/wrong doing may have been involved with the women.

If they plan on doing a second season I'll be tuning in.

Also for this being a "trivia night" I saw a whole lot karaoke and zero trivia.

I think somehow Bonnie knew of Perry's abusive nature. She kept watching him and decided to pursue. She grabbed her own throat after the push. Makes me think once upon a time maybe he came onto her or they had a thing and she knew.
My wife said that in the book she came from an abusive home. That may have made more sense, on the HBO series, had it be known Bonnie was ultra sensitive to domestic violence prior to the last 10 minutes. Just sayin.

I havent finished the book and have 200 pages left. Thanks for the spoiler alert!

Other than the fact that women band together to tell an unnecessary lie I thought the ending was fitting. Not much of a twist but didn't really take away from an excellent HBO miniseries.

My wife and I had that same conversation. I was asking, "why does Bonnie care about where Perry is going?" Wife says it's b/c she was abused and is picking up on the body language b/w Perry and Celeste. I go, "well they could have told us that at some point in this show." She says in episode 1, when Abigail accused Ziggy that someone mentioned it about Bonnie being abused...and I vaguely remember it. Just wasn't a big enough thing to make an impact that was meaningful in the finale.

Wasn't a fan of the reveal of Jane's attacker. Was hoping for some confrontation b/w them, and not just him going ape-sht on Celeste. I don't think he even realized it was her...

Okay, I started the book, I couldn't help myself. Even in the beginning the book really has some rich details that you don't get in the show. This should be interesting.

Finished the book. Of course the book stort is best and the story was pretty well-adapted to the screen. The book is set in Australia. There is no affair on Madeline's part in the book, nor were she and Ed wealthy, but I totally see why HBO added it. California wives with money have to have skeletons bc they are essentially bored.

200 pages in the book. Yes, they did well adapting it to the screen. And yes, with Ed in the book he is fun loving and doesn't seem to have any strange qualities so far. I have a feeling I will like the ending in the book much better than the one on screen.

Yeah my wife (book reader) was almost livid about the edition of Madeline's affair. That kind of ruined her character for me and made Ed look like a complete beta. I did get a kick out of my wife really griping about HBO adding the affair and other changes. I was like "how many times have I told you about all the crap they add to GOT that wasn't in the books?"

I thought it was funny though that Madeline and Ed living in this absolutely beautiful house on the beach in CA but she drives a Buick.

Seeing all the mega-wealthy seemed natural except for Madeline and Ed. Their house was actually the most expensive (just saw an article on that). For them to own a $10m+ home, something had to be up. Madeline was a volunteer divorcee, and Ed was just a graphic designer dude that didn't seem to be an entrepreneur. Renata and Celeste, you can sense they had major money. So that made sense.

It didn't bother me, and frankly it was a stunning property to look at - - it just didn't fit.

It looked to me like he acknowledged all of the looks at Jane and that's when he decided to attack

About halfway through the season, I predicted Perry was the rapist. Then it fell kinda flat at the very end, but I still enjoyed it and would watch a second season.

If you're into mediocre stories very slightly enhanced by HBO production value, sure.

If you're into quasi- mysteries with excessive red herrings that end up with the most predictable ending if you had guessed from the first ep- definitely.

If you're into house porn- absolutely.

Otherwise, it's A actors and cinematographer doing a B- story with a C- script, so it just depends on what's in your queue in front of it.

This is spot on (yes, I realize it's from 2 years ago). I didn't feel like I wasted my time with the first season, but wouldn't recommend it. I can't possibly see how a second season will improve on it, which just leads me to believe it's gonna be bad.
