He was perfect, but the rest of the cast was also almost perfect fits.

It's TV and not film, but after my 3rd re-watch of the series recently, Vincent Kartheiser who plays Pete Campbell in Mad Men was incredibly well-cast.

He had the perfect ability to make you not sure if you wanted to punch him, feel for him, like him at times, or want to see him fall off a cliff. He played the young, immature spoiled business kid so well. And they did a fantastic job maturing and growing his character as he aged throughout the show's time and setting.

Gene Hackman in hoosiers. He carried that movie to such an extent that it's one of my favorites despite it being basically just him and a good score.

Also Bill Murray as Dr Peter Venkman.

I particularly liked the casting in JJ Abrams Star Trek movies.

As I soon as I saw Karl Urban, I KNEW he was Dr. McCoy. Just looked exactly the part. Also liked Chris Pine as Kirk.

Russell Crowe as Captain Aubrey in MASTER AND COMMANDER. There is no other actor, past or present, I can imagine as that character.

Though seriously, I have not enjoyed Hugh Jackman as Wolvie simply due to his height. I think it would have been move enjoyable to watch a short guy taking on all the big bads.

Mark Wahlberg in Boogie Nights.

He played that role masterfully. Not sure anyone else could pull that one off
