I blame the lack of votes for The Band on a majority of this board's lack of knowledge in rock n roll history.

yeah well....definitely very much has some age-ism influence. you can see many albums from the 90s got a lot more than they probably should have with a wider audience. I think given the Texags community demographics it is not surprising though. And older stuff (the Band, the Beatles, Elvis) did not fare as well. Some classic rock did well but by and large it skewed to younger....I'm talking about the surprising (to me) bands in the double digits, not so much the top 12.

Still fun and interesting though.

I'm a young and all but 1 of my votes I believe were for albums released before 1990.

But yeah overall I agree. Like how every favorite movie list turns into 4 of the 7 star wars episodes.

Radiohead is a great band, but anyone voting for Pablo Honey as one of the greatest debut albums of all time is voting for the band and not the album.

...or one song "Creep".....

for the record it WAS in the original list and got ZERO votes so......."you" didn't vote for it either (or you missed the vote).

I feel the same way about Zeppelin. They'll probably win this because people just want to vote for anything Zeppelin, but Are You Experienced should finish ahead of it IMO.

Love both albums but I honestly think Zep is better. Then again, I prefer the Axis:Bold As Love and Band of Gypsys Hendrix stuff over the debut.

Granted I wouldn't call LZ I their best album but it had a hell of a lot lore than 1 song. Easily 4-6 very well known zep songs.

well...if we're being technical....Boston should win the overall title. But we'll see how it plays out.

I know it has more than one song, I just think its far from being the greatest debut album of all time despite my feeling it will be voted the greatest on here. Hell, I'd probably rank it 4th or 5th among their own albums.

Getting tough now....I think I had 9 of my originals on that list. The 4th pick was the toughest. Really boiling down to influence at this point. How many bands/artist did that album create?

I'd probably rank it somewhere in that area too amongst their own albums but I can also make an argument that it's the best debut album of all time. Zep was that damn good.

Sigh No More is one of the most original albums to come out in the last two decades. Blending college-radio rock/folk/bluegrass, creating a completely unique sound. Yes, the hipsters way over played it, but it definitely ranks. Couldn't vote it top 4 though.

Weezer has been the one and only album I can listen through from start to finish without even considering skipping ahead.

Personally, this is no contest.

Not sure exactly what you're saying. and I will agree that Pablo Honey isn't the greatest debut album ever, but I will argue that it is great. I understand that this album doesn't really represent who the band is today, or what they became in following albums, but the roots of what they became are all there.

You, Vegetable, How Do You, Ripcord, Lurgee, Prove Yourself, Thinking about You - all songs I could listen to again and again. Plus maybe their biggest song ever, Creep, which is a little overplayed for me, but still great.

I think Radiohead has become so great and so different that Pablo Honey gets an unfair bad rap, but I think it's a great debut album.

I don't want to unduly influence anyone else's vote, but the vote shouldn't be about the band's body of work. Zeppelin's reputation wasn't built on their debut album. Neither were the reputations of Radiohead, Van Halen, Jimi, or SRV dependent on their debut albums. While not in the semifinals, Rush is another example. In contrast, Boston's entire reputation was built on that debut. That's not to say that the followup albums weren't good too; Don't Look Back and Third Stage were successful in their own right. I think the same could be argued for Ten; Pearl Jam is Ten. In my mind, anyway, that's the most important consideration for this poll.
