Used the Russian Dance Trepak from The Nutcracker? We saw it last night and I've been racking my brain since... I know it's used quite a bit, but there was one prominent advertisement when I was growing up that used it. Thought it might have been Rice-a-Roni, but no luck on the youtubes.

Any ideas?

No idea....all I can ever think of when I see a thread dealing with nostalgic commercials is,

CROSSFIRE!

Hard to narrow down since so many commercials use that music or a variant this time of year.

Seems like a Mercedez or Lexus commercial uses it every year.

It was certainly on the Home Alone soundtrack (I think when they were rushing to get ready for the airport).

Any other clues? I watched A LOT of tv during that time span.

I remember one with cats sliding around on throw rugs and whatnot and causing mayhem with trepak playing.

Maybe friskies?

That's one of the most common pieces of music used for commercials/movies. Its probably been in over a dozen commercials. I can vaguely remember a commercial for a cleaning product where things kept getting spilled using that music.

I just watched a youtube video with an hour worth of 80's and 90's commercials. It brought back a lot of memories. Namely, I forgot about the 7up Dots running amok, and I forgot NutraSweet was a thing.

Cat food sounds familiar, as does different drinks spilling... I've search Youtube for Friskies Nutcracker commercials but no luck... This is the closest I've actually found:
