It was a microsecond of "political gay crap".

I talked about this with my wife last night after seeing the movie.
Fantastic by the way.
But 1) making lefou gay was obvious for about 2/3 of the movie.
2) he got progressively more gay throughout the movie
3) I felt it was unnecessary. Didn't necessarily detract from the film, but I felt it wasn't needed

This! Making this change made Le Fous character even better. He even sounded like his version in the original. Was a great change!Clarke95 said:
Le Fou's whole character in the cartoon is a fawning sidekick to Gaston. He sings a song about how handsome and amazing Gaston is - once you make it live action there's NO way it won't come off a little gay. Kids likely won't even pick up on it and who cares if they do? They're going to laugh at his lines and pratfalls and enjoy the movie, just as they do in the cartoon.
What I loved in the live action was his turn against Gaston and realization that he wasn't a good guy. That was actually a nice bit of character development and acting by Gad.
Gaston was a much meaner villain in this than the cartoon - tying up Maurice and leaving him to die was...rough.

WAY too much political gay crap hamfisted in. Was good otherwise.
Really? 2 guys dancing for 3 seconds?

My 12 year old after the movie ends, "That's so stupid. Too many black people in the movie."
Of course, I knew exactly what he meant.
I think he inherited my filter.
i'm an incredibly conservative christian that DOES think we're getting stuff shoved down our throats and this movie was a big fat nothing burger in that regard.watty said:
Ok, now that I've read the thread and see that's it's all about this supposed gay issue, I have my face right in my palm. I literally didn't even notice any gayness in the movie. At all. I had to be told afterwards that there was a big controversy over a 2 second clip that wasn't even overt. As I told my wife, all French people seem kinda gay anyway. So a goofy, slightly effiminate French guy is supposed to have us outraged? Please. I didn't see a single scene that was even mildly questionable in the gay side, and I'm a fairly conservative Christian. People need to lighten up.
