Wish we waited until there was at least some casting news or production began before starting this thread. No point finally hopping in on page 16 when the season starts.

Just my two cents, carry on

We need a way to pass the time.

Probably would've been better to just call if the offseason thread though, I'll agree with you there.

The only thing preventing this thread from hitting 75 pages before the start of the next season is a Winds of Winter release and new book thread.

Dream of Spring is just a short story. It'll be Bran, as the last surviving human alive, plugged into a tree visioning over a time of peace, since in Winds of Winter the White Walkers will have destroyed everything else. Dream will end with the Night's King cutting Bran in half like the previous 3 Eyed Crow.

We have details of the directors and the first casting call info for two young northern characters (http://www.moviefone.com/2016/06/20/game-of-thrones-season-7-casting-notices-high-stakes-scene/). It's not much, but it'll get posted as it happens. I think they've just begun shooting for next season.

Have to say, the piece in Episode 10, "Light of the Seven," is absolutely stunning.

Could listen to that all day.

That article also says only one more HBO season...which does not match countless interviews done with execs there. This to say I don't know if it is a very good source.

As to finishing books, what is that old saying about believing when I see it...

I could have sworn I already read somewhere that next season is the last. 15 episodes split 7 in summer 8 in fall? But maybe it was a dream or flashback or foreshadowing......

Thought I would post this here too - it;s seasons 6 related but since so many were discussin the timeline....

Found this timeline from a article referring to a Reddit thread....I took the timeline and added scene numbers and descriptions.

Two scenes did not have a timeline - 4. Sam and 10. Bran scenes - so I just put them in the middle.

No they have never said summer and fall.

And they have never really said it was 15 either. They said between 13 and 15 more hours.

That could be 13 episodes (with a long finale). They have mentioned 7 and 6 episodes as a possibility. But nothing much has been confirmed yet. they did name only 4 directors for the next season which would seem to imply only 7 episodes or so (since they always have done 1 director for every 2 episodes). Could be the last episode of each abbreviated season is more than 1 hour so effectively 7.x and 6.x where each is longer than an hour.

I have yet to see HBO or anyone confirm the number or lengths of episodes or even when they would be. But presumably production schedules and timelines will remain the same and that will be the next 2 April-June timeframes (somewhere in there).

If(BIG IF) TWOW was done now that would put the release more around October if the publishers followed the same sort of timeline.

I agree with you ZJS, unsubstantiated and no way ADOS is almost nearly finished, but would be great if it was.

I'll take a stab in the dark and say that Sansa kills LF next season.
I think Sansa outmaneuvers LF and is responsible for his ignominious end/death. It won't just be her killing him. That would be too simple.

If we see Ser Jorah again, I think he'll show up in Oldtown looking for a cure. Maybe he'll get help from a maester who can stop the greyscale, then meet Sam, and then they'll get word to Dany/Tyrion about Jon, Sansa, and the Whitewalker threat.

Bran has GOT to warg into Drogon before this is all over.
Hm.... What if Jorah meets Sam and Sam reads how greyscale is contagious to WWs? Then Jorah could be the secret weapon Sam finds at the Citadel. Then Jorah could sacrifice himself to the WW army and finally come to peace with doing what he can to help Dany bring peace to the world.

or maybe they are just killed by non frozen water or a virus.

jk....but that kinda sounds like Signs or War of the World's. I hope it's more battle and not some disease-like deus ex machina.

Also that would give Jorah a way to bring honor back to his family's name. Would even be a bit full-circle if his father was Lord Commander of the Night's Watch and then Jorah ended up being the one that saved mankind from the WWs.

Doesn't mean there still can't be a big battle. And with how things are going, it's likely Jon loses that battle. Hence the need for Jorah to sacrifice himself for the cause.

Diana Gabaldon - the author of the Outlander series - shares a publisher with GRRM, and they are good friends.
Back in 2014 when she was about to put out her book 8 in the series, said that it might be delayed if his next book came out then. It wasn't delayed, and obviously Winds of Winter didn't come out. But she has lunch him pretty regularly and surely she based her comments to her fan base on what either GRRM or their shared publisher was telling her.

So I'm re-listening to DWD right now and Tyrion is reading up on dragons, but he's not happy with his sources. He mentions two definitive - one that Baelor the Blessed decreed should be destroyed and one that is Valerian - that he believes the only copy in Westeros is in a cell under the Citadel. (I think the name was the Death of Dragons)

My thought is that Sam is going to be able to tell Dany and the others how to use their dragons.

It looks like the abbreviated Season 7 just got pushed back actually.

In an interview on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss explained that because of the story lines for next year, production will need to be pushed back. And as a result, the premiere date for Season 7 gets a delay too.

Basically saying that to film in more "winterish" weather they are pushing back production and therefore releases dates.

A few things I'm trying to foresee and reconcile with the story given what we now know.

A - Claims to the Kingdoms
1) Dany wants all 7 kingdoms
2) Jon has been declared King of the North. There seems to be a strong desire for the North to retain independence (Nexit?)

Do Dany and Jon come to war due to ideological differences? Add to it that LF would be against Dany's rein - wanting the throne for himself - I could see him backing the North's claim to independence with the Vale's own until he can, in his own mind at least, unite the 7 kingdoms.

Or, does Jon rally behind Targaryen? If he knew of his birth he might, but with that knowledge, he'd again be at odds to Dany's claim to Westros.

B - Dany's Fight for Freedom at Odds with Her Desire for Rule Over Westros
I'm definitely overthinking this, but given Dany's fighting for slave's freedom and liberty, her view of men and women on equal footing, and her generally progressive viewpoints compared to the norms of that world, for some reason I see that maturing into an introduction of democracy/republic. This contradicts my Point A above, I know, but her motives and actions in Essos seem to ideologically collide with her drive for absolute rule in Westros. I'm fine with that being her character (in fact, probably my favorite part of her character and story), but am curious to see how that plays out: does her belief that she will be a just Queen become corrupted with power, or does her power become compromised by her empathy for her people? Or, is there some other path (like introducing a constitution/senate)?

C - What's Up with Greyscale?
There's gotta be a tie with the White Walker Disease right? Are they related in anyway? Others have thought that perhaps Greyscale will be introduced to the WW as a pox, but what if it's the opposite and they are more in concert with each other? Stone men and wights seem to have similarities, and mysterious leaders. Perhaps Euron has Greyscale - he has traveled pretty much everywhere. I see this as Connington/Jorah's path.

Dany already said she's fine if the Iron Islands want independence-- let the other Kingdoms make their case.

I don't think Dany would have a problem with the North being somewhat independent, but I also don't really see Jon caring at all about bending the knee if Dany uses her dragons and armies to help destroy the Others.

Of course, at some point the dragon in the room would have to be addressed, and I honestly don't know what would happen if Dany and Jon are both living at it becomes known that Jon is Rhaegar's true born son.
smokeythebear
How long do you want to ignore this user?

1) Euron does not have greyscale. Not sure where/why you came up with that.

2) Dany knows that her family was slaughtered and run out of town. She knows her father was crazy, but she also thinks the people who killed the rest of her family are also bad people. She wants to rule so that she can be a good ruler. No reason to think she won't let other regions be in charge of their own stuff, but they'll still have to follow her laws (i.e. no more raping and reeving for the iron born).

3) Jon doesn't want to be a leader, he is being forced into leadership positions. I think much like Ned, he would be more than happy swearing fealty to a ruler down south as long as he is able to take care of his own up north. Once he's done with the WWs, he'll be more than satisfied being "warden of the north" like Ned was.

I thought Dany said no you can't have independence, but I'll give you the Iron Islands, and you must bend a knee to me. My recollection is she was pretty clear that there wouldn't be a free Iron Islands under her watch.

1) I did come up with that on my own - there's no basis.
2 and 3 make sense.
