Yep. I have a 14 yo son and 11 yo girl. Just rewatched this with my son (the time cherished exercise of watching good movies with your kids) and this hit me even harder the second watch recently. The father - daughter relationship is just incredibly unique and this movie does a great job of making those emotions hit home.

Just want to chime in and say I think Interstellar is the best movie of all time

The toughest scene for me is when he is driving away and she comes charging out the door. He looks under the blanket and she's not there. Brings tears every time

Way back somewhere on this thread a poster made a comment about this scene. Something like "I'm gonna go drive around while "Stay" is playing. Stay is the score track name of that scene.

What an amazing scene, too:

His daughter running out the front door and being grabbed by grandpa.
The countdown to the launch voice over.
Him checking under the blanket to make sure his daughter isn't in the car.
The music ending with the startup of the rocket engines.

I'm a massive Nolan fan, but the first time I saw Interstellar I was not at all a fan of the black hole 5D bookcase climax. In fact, I kind of hated it.

Now?

I think it's one of the most brilliant endings ever, the movie as a whole is absolutely one of Nolan's best, and it's one of my all-time favorite sci-fi movies as well.

It's just incredible, and has only gotten better and better with age.

That said, I rewatched the second half again recently, and the *only* thing that still kind of bugs me is how brief Cooper and Murph's reunion is at the end. After all that time, how did they not spend at least a couple days catching up? It's an emotional scene for sure, but I would have liked to have seen them together just a bit more. Or at least have been given some kind of *indication* that they spent more time together. Brand sure as hell wasn't going anywhere, so it's not like Cooper couldn't have waited just a bit longer to peace out.

Unless the plan was to bring her back to the space station? Though, I got the distinct impression he was going to start a new life with Brand on that planet. Then again, maybe the space station eventually makes its way to that planet? Who knows...

People who really enjoy this movie, and in particular the ending, should watch Dark.

I took that brief scene literally as no parent should have to watch his child die. As well as he was a stranger to the family that she had created. I guess it would be like your great great grandfather showing up alive with you on your death bed surrounded by all of your descendants.

Interstellar is one of the greatest science fiction movies ever made, and actually the best pure sci-fi movie ever made (I rank Alien and Blade Runner ahead of it, but those have some fantastical sci-fi elements)

I'd argue dark is one of the best tv shows ever made . Thought out from start to finish, complex knot coming unraveled one episode at a time.

My wife hates sci fi and subtitles and she couldn't turn it off.

When discussing how great this movie is, you also can't leave out Zimmer's incredible score. The composition and arrangement (all that awesome pipe organ) were a perfect fit for the film.

IMO the best score ever produced. On its on own without the film, it is still a classical masterpiece.

That's fair. Though I could never tell if she was close to death *because* of the trip to the space station, or already was prior. Also, do they say where she was? Was there another space station?

Yes. They state that she was sleeping in cryo and was only awakened after the family learned of Coop's return. And no one was going to keep her away from reuniting with her dad.

I was always surprised so many had negative things to say about this movie when it came out. It is one of my favorites and may be my favorite Nolan film.

I agree with just about everything great that has been mentioned, but have to add just how much I love the robots in this film. Case and Tars are so well made and add so much to this film.

My primary issues are this line and line delivery when Cooper is trying to dock with the station that is spinning out of control:

CASE: "It's not possible!"

Cooper: "No...it's necessary."

I literally LOL'd during my first rewatch.

Interstellar is the only movie I have purchased on blue ray because it was that good.

Oh man, I feel the exact opposite.

The last time I watched this was with a few friends on a big ass tv and a really good surround system. We'd been drinking and enjoying delights of the...herbal variety...and maybe it was the combination of the aforementioned along with the setting and the score (No Time for Caution is on my Zimmer Mt Rushmore), but even still all three of us love the entire docking scene and that line delivery.

It's almost a perfect film. Shook me to my core after the first viewing so I went back two more times to see it.

Ask her if she is okay with it or not. I, for one, hate it when people do that and agree with Ol_Ag. Or just talk in general during movies…unless it's a more light-hearted affair or viewing.

I liked it enough that my dogs names are coop and murph and bought the coop and murph Hamilton watches inspired by the film and they're awesome sub 1k pieces.

I'd say it's one of the best movies ever made. Possibly my favorite.

I love the idea of an entire planet of shallow water. So freaky and cool.
