Please help settle an ongoing arguement. Back when Steve McQueen was alive, who was cooler (bigger actor), McQueen or Newman?

Just some trivia...

Recent name attaching: Paul Newman has his name on some subpar spaghetti sauce and Steve McQueen has his name on the special edition Bullitt Mustang.

I'm not trying to influence the comments...just wanted to point out some trivia that maybe everyone was not aware of.

Also,

Just in case someone missed "Tao of Steve", Donal Logue talks about how cool Steve McQueen is (in reference to a discussion about whether or not all Steves are cool)...No mention of Paul Newman or spaghetti sauce.

By the way, "Tao of Steve" is an excellent movie. I recommend it to everyone, even fans of Paul Newman.

Newman gets my vote for best actor-sponsored spaghetti sauce, but McQueen was the better race car driver of the two. Ergo and concordantly, McQueen was far cooler. It might help Newman's case if Sheryl Crow writes a top 40 hit called "Paul Newman" someday. (BTW, the spaghetti sauce from Monjuni's puts Newman's to shame.)

in my opinion, Paul Newman is the greatest actor of all time, and naturally my favorite. However, you can't discount how cool Steve McQueen is. I vote Newman

In the towering inferno, you get the best of both worlds. did they do anything else together?

Newman doesn't just attach his name to salad dressings and spaghetti sauce. He owns the company, and ALL profits go to various charities, $150 million dollars since 1982. In addition, he runs the Hole in the Wall Camp in Connecticut for kids who either have cancer or have survived cancer, and pays all expenses, including transportation to the camp from anywhere in the world.

That makes him pretty cool in my book.

Tough call. I prefer McQueen, but Newman in Slap Shot was unreal!
