I'm ccurious, why is there so little known about Ned's mother? How did she die?

She was born into the Stark family, married a distant cousin (the head Stark), had 4 kids, and died.

Yeah, I checked that article beforehand. I just think it's strange that a character from a major house just one generation up, has virtually zero backstory or even a date and cause of death.

She's not integral to the story. How much do you know about Robert Baratheon's mom? Or Catelyn's?

It is a fair point but we do have a bit more information about those.

Robert's mom drowned along with her husband in sight of Storm's End after a trip to Essos where they had gone to search for a bride for Rhaegar. Patchface was the only survivor.

http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Cassana_Estermont

Catelyn's mom died in childbirth. As a Whent her family used to rule Harrehall.
http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Minisa_Whent

Now some of the information about Ned's family has been intentionally withheld to be released as needed. We only find out in book 5 that Brandon was a bit of an ass and may have been the one to knock up Ashara Dayne.

Well, we at least know more about Joanna Lannister, and she's not exactly integral either.

As nikator said, I wonder if George intentionally left a blank slate for Ned's mom because he plans to fill in some of those details in the last two books.

I think there is a reason Joanna has been mentioned in the books SO MUCH moreso than any other of the "mothers."

Granted, some would argue that she is on the same level as Catelyn and Cersi, mothers to major characters in the show/book.

I think the fact that it is mentioned so many damn times that birthing Tyrion killed her, and her backstory is telltale of what will be reveled.

That's a good point.

Dany's mother, Tyrion's mother, Jon's mother, all died in childbirth. We all know that that means.

It could just be a GRRM thing to lead us down a false path.

But I think originally at least, regardless of the final book outcome, this was the idea and goal.

May have been discussed previously, but was anyone else freaked out by Arya's weird psycho killer face when frey was dying? I mean the "good guys" all have kills, but don't look super happy satisfied (minus sansa/ramsey). Think she could like killing a bit too much?

Specifically around minute 1:30

Yeah, that is definitely a development to watch closely. The willingness to kill for safety/survival vs enjoying killing for revenge. Arya is teetering on the edge of the dark side.

Yeah, I really think this ties in well to what the Hound told Sansa back in Season 2 about the Starks being killers. How her father was a killer, her brother was a killer, and her sons will be killers. Even says something about them all liking it. Pretty interesting that they've all pretty much made the transition as we see Sansa smiling after the Ramsay dog killing, and Arya's creepy killer smile here.

She just fed a Lord's inheritors to him before slitting his throat. I don't think she's teetering much.

So in the eventual Stark family reunion, who will have the craziest stories to tell?

Arya: "I can wear different faces. I murdered Meryn Trant, and slit Walder Frey's throat after feeding his own sons to him. I was also blind for a while."

Bran: "Turns out I can visit and influence the past. I made Hodor; I spoke to father; and I know where Jon comes from. Also, I had a bit of a run in with the Night King."

Sansa: "I saw Joffrey die. I saw Lord Baelish murder Aunt Lysa. Then he married me to Ramsay Bolton, who raped me every day until Theon helped me escape. Brienne of Tarth rescued me from his hounds and escorted me to Caste Black. Jon and I gathered the forces we could muster and took back our home, and I fed Ramsay to his own hounds."

Jon: "I fought wildlings, then teamed up with them to fight the White Walkers. I became Lord Commander and was betrayed and killed. But the red woman brought me back. Then I took back Winterfell. Also, I got laid."

I think the guy that plays Bran put it best in an interview when asked about a Stark reunion:

"I think they can make a dream team. Like, we've got the amazing leader and warrior in Jon, Sansa's becoming quite the diplomat, Arya can do the slicey, slicey assassin face-change thing, and Bran can be a tree wizard. We'll be like the Fantastic Four."

Found this timeline from a article referring to a Reddit thread....I took the timeline and added scene numbers and descriptions.

Two scenes did not have a timeline - 4. Sam and 10. Bran scenes - so I just put them in the middle.

Arya is in the riverlands when Jamie is there with Bron; most likely she has been there for a while.

I'd reckon that Arya, sailed back to westeros (maybe KL) and joined the travelers in the rear of the Lannister army, like lots of whooores and cooks and such did.

Well yes...and the timeline shows that - Arya arrives on her timeline before Jamie leaves on his. But the scene shown is after Jamie leaves - hence Walder is all alone.

I doubt though that she came in with the Lannisters. she likely came there and got a job as a servant then waited for her opportunity. And I doubt she went to KL first that is wayyy out of the way. Braavos is way up north and she most easily just went straight across in around the Vale (which is also where she originally sailed out of Westeros from after leaving The Hound) or possibly even up around the Neck which is closer to Riverrun.

You've obviously looked into the geography more than I do cool.

But I meant the the number 2 is before "Arya arrives". Isn't the location of the number on the line indicative of the time of the scene or is it just denoting the scene number?

Yea, I'm real confused by the number placement on that chart.

Also, Daario comes in to talk to Dany and says "Your ships are almost done. I saw them painting the sails black." Granted, she could have broken up with Daario, then the ships were finished in the next few days, and then sat there for another few weeks waiting to hear back from Varys, but I imagine there is no reason you couldn't just move up the Daario break-up to right before they leave or perhaps after Varys has returned.

Well we don't know when Arya arrived. Her arrival notch could be much further to the left. That would also solve it.

But relatively speaking the number 2 only means that it is somewhere in that time to the left of Jamie leaves the Riverlands. Also sometimes I was just not putting it over the text.

But yes it could be (maybe should) be further right and after Arya arrives there. Would make sense as she was scene at the party scene (assuming she already had that face).

I fixed it above now.

Again yes it just means it is somewhere on that timeline - relative to Varys the only thing we know is it is after he left for Dorne and before the final scene.

The 7 could be by the 13 - it could be before or after Varys returns - we can't prove that. However I suspect it is before he returned because she was not shown talking with him. And I would assume they have a conversation when he returns since he is bringing her ships.

All we really know is most likely 7 is between 6 and 13 - I added an arrow showing 7 could be anywhere in there.

But the time between the 6 and the 13 is sufficient for Varys to travel back to Meereen.
