Why is Cersei so confident in the Mountain still? The last time he was in a trial by combat, he basically lost (if it weren't for some fortuitous showboating at the end).

In the books yes. But in the show, Tywin brings in someone from Volantis i believe and doesnt use Tobho Mott.

Because he is undead and probably feels no pain. Most likely wont bleed nor wear down during a fight.

She probably thinks he's indestructible, what with being dead and all. We all assume differently because GLEGANEBOWL!!!! GET HYPE!!!! but it's not an unreasonable assumption on her part.

Plus, Oberyn was one of the best fighters in the world. The Mountain is a force that not many people could handle even before he was undead.

I think I remember him discussing that with Tyrion. It was something along the lines of "even with two good hands it would be tough to say I could beat him".

Right, I mean obviously he's the best choice for her, but you'd think she would be a hair more reserved since she already did this once and almost got burned. Using the excuse that Oberyn just happened to be one of maybe 5 people that could kill the Mountain is lazy. Besides, it only takes one so now there's 4 people out there who could kill him? If one of those four happens to sign up, Cersei is dead. Yet she doesn't seem worried at all.

Or, get someone NOT the mountain and have about 50/50 chance.

Or, get the mountain amd have about an 80/20, or 90/10 chance.

No brainer.

Her confidence in this one makes me question it though. Jaime is gone...she loses the trial by combat...and that's how she checks out?

We all expect Tommen to die first, so unless that happens before the trial...

This. Plus, she is likely thinking that one of the remaining 4 (since that was the number given as an example earlier) people remaining in the world that could beat the Mountain isn't likely to show. I mean they definitely could take advantage of an opportunity just like Oberyn did, but it isn't likely. They would first have to know about it, and I'm not sure how widely known it is yet that a trial by combat is coming. Also, how many of them want to take a chance in a fight with someone that you're not sure you can kill.

Coldhands? Who knows.

I would guess a faceless assassin could rekill him, but probably not in a one on one sword fight.

Bronn might hold his own, but he'd be a dog.

Sand snakes? Nah they're not their daddy.

I don't know of anyone that great in the Warrior's Son. They might have worthy opponent.

Loras knocked him off his horse, but **** down his leg when he came at him.

Daario might give him a run for his money.

Am I missing anyone obvious?

Victarian could beat the Mountain but he's not in the tv series.

It's hard to say if any of the kings guard could. They are supposed to be the best, but the show has made them anonymous. Ser Barristan probably could (but he's dead in the show). Maybe Tormund?

No one else left in the show as a major character comes across as being able.
