Pulp Fiction isn't a gangster film, it's a film with gangsters in it.

If you want to add an English twist go with Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Sexy Beast, Layer Cake.

I've always had Carlito's Way and State of Grace up in my lists. Love those two films. Godfather and Goodfellas will always be 1A and 1B depending on what side of the fence you're on.

It's certainly not a mob movie.

But just because there are goons or thugs in a movie also doesn't make it a gangster or mobster film. Boyz was a hood film like the rest; South Central, Jason's Lyric, Menace II Soceity. I can see why PF is sometimes put in the category, but i wouldn't.

I'd put City of God and American Me over those two.

Do you actually remember this film? Where are there crips and bloods? It isn't Colors. When Ricky got shot, it wasn't over red or blue.

The Bloods and Crips were in Boyz N the Hood. that makes it a gang movie, period.

Uh, really? Doughboy and his crew are obviously Crips; the guys who shoot Ricky are obviously Bloods. Did you miss the Chicago Bulls gear and red bandannas, or did you not know what they meant?

The conflict at the drag race where Ferris shoots his automatic pistol in the air is definitely gang-related.

The film isn't specifically "about" the conflicts between gangs in the same way that, say, the conflicts in Donnie Brasco were about the factions led by Sonny Black and Sonny Red. But it is definitely the unspoken context, and that's the point of the damn movie--that the urban gangbanger lifestyle is pointless and leads nowhere in the end.

Casino was so well done, but I can't watch it again. It's too depressing. Maybe that means it was well done and powerful.

my #3 is Road To Perdition.

I understand the subtle things, but it was LA in the 90s. EVERYTHING you wore had some gang affiliation. Dough Boy was just a small time drug dealer in the film. The scenes in Crenshaw had nothing to do about colors.

John Singelton even went as far as to avoid an obvious gang aspect because he wanted to portray more the upbringing of the characters.

All right, so you just didn't get the movie. If we're going to post mass-media interpretations of the movie, go read the wiki. There are Bloods and Crips allusions throughout Boyz in the Hood.

It is beyond dispute that the insignia and colors worn by Doughboy and his friends are associated with the Crips--watch any of Ice Cube's music videos from that era and you will see more of the same--and their adversaries are stereotypical Bloods.

Why do you think Ferris is challenging Ricky at the race scene? You don't think it has anything to do with who his brother is and who he represents?

Singleton had no interest in doing what the Godfather, arguably, did in glorifying the Mafia. Doughboy isn't a good guy because he followed the code of the street. He's a guy whose parents didn't care about him and as Furious says at the beginning, "you're going to see how they turn out".

Goodfellas & Casino are my favorites mainly because I love the narrations by several of the characters. Martin Scorsese is my favorite so that plays a part too. I really like the god father because it represents that old Sicilian culture. I like em all I'm just a mobster movie junkie

Goodfellas is the most rewatchable.

Godfather was about 45 minutes too long. So much pointless fluff in the middle of the film.

The difference between Godfather and Goodfellas is like the difference between The Wire and Seinfeld. Seinfeld episodes you can watch over and over. You can start any episode half way through and still get the main point of the show. The Wire is a show that needs to be watched from beginning to end to get the complete story. Watching some random episode in the middle of season three will be a waste of time. Goodfellas is like Seinfeld. I can watch it over and over again, I can start watching the movie at any point in the movie and I can watch it while doing other things. The Godfather though, If I see it on tv and its already started, I'm not going to watch it. Its a movie that needs to be watched from beginning to end and pay full attention to. I think The Godfather is a better movie, but most of the time, when given the option, I would rather watch Goodfellas.
