Great book - thanks for the recommendation!

I hope the movie turns out well. From the type of book it is and how Hollywood normally adapts books, I have a concern it will be a great movie for those who haven't read the book, but just miss the mark for those that have read it. As long as the reviews aren't horrible, I'll be there as I want to get a better visual image on some of the aspects like the Hab and MAV.

I loved the book. Matt Damon doesn't fit Watney in my mind, but I'm still excited about the movie.

Finished the book last night. Really looking forward to the movie, but will be interested to see how they portray his log entries. Is 2/3 of the movie gonna be Matt Damon voiceovers while he does science with disco playing?

I've read the script. I can tell you unless you don't actually want to know. I wouldn't call it spoilery really.

Go ahead. I don't consider that a spoiler either.

Sometimes he just does work with no voiceover. Most of the time he does video log entries that continue in to voice overs showing him doing the work. But to be honest they cut a lot of that out of the movie. Which is understandable... It's still a big part of the narrative obviously, but they had to cut it way down.

It's a really good script. Hopefully Ridley Scott is able to do it and the novel justice.

That's kind of how I thought they might handle it. I've been listening to the audiobook again this week and trying to imagine how they'll translate it to screen. Video logs cut up was exactly how I imagined they'd handle that.

By the way, I have to say again that it really is a well narrated audiobook.

I hope they keep all the witty, uncouth-ness of his audiologs and messages to NASA intact. If they try to sanitize it too much, they'll lose a lot of what makes his character so fun.

Not sure about Matt Damon though, i did not picture a character like him at all while reading.

Commander lewis looks to be spot on in regards to my imagination!

Enjoyed the book, if the movie does it justices it should be a great movie.

Prometheus was a gorgeous movie. This looks like it will be as pretty.

She's absolutely perfect for her role. The book and script are actually pretty funny.

Hmmm. Looks great, as suspected, but some of those "jokes" fall kind of flat. Also, is the phrase "World Series" like "Superbowl" in that it's copyrighted and can't be used in marketing? What baseball fan says "World Title"? Anyway, this is obviously only a viral video, so enough critiquing. It's fine overall, and definitely cool to see.

Looks like we MIGHT be getting the trailer tomorrow, in conjunction with some kind of Q&A with the screenwriter and author. Also, the trailer might only be two minutes and not three. Three separate things have been registered now, two of them three minutes, and one of them two minutes, and I have no idea what's what. We'll should find out soon, though.

I don't think so. There are tons of World Series events. Little League, World Series of Poker, World Series of Darts, etc... Even if it is, I couldn't imagine them not wanting publicity and not being able to work out a deal with a blockbuster movie.

And no I have never heard a single person ever say, "World Title" for baseball. If it was some kind of a problem I would go with, "Win the Championship" or even, "Win it all"

"World Title" instead of "World Series" definitely sounded strange... There's a few gems in the video for the folks who read the book, but I'm not sure they perfectly captured the lead character. It feels roughly 90% there, but not quite.

The rest of the cast seems perfect, though. I'm sure I'll like Damon more in the role when we see more of the movie.

For sure. This is such an awesome cast overall. So many great/notable names back on Earth as well.

I wouldn't be mad at all if they went off script and figured out a way to kill off Sean Bean's character.

Yeah, they clearly made changes from the book, but the key to the story to me is his attitude in the face of everything thrown at him. Glad that it looks like they've managed to preserve that.
