quote:i agree it shouldn't have won. The nomination isn't atrocious to me. But I still don't get it. I thought all the stories intertwined in a clever way and the acting was good.quote:
I don't understand why Crash gets panned like it does. It was heavy-handed and pretentious, but it's far from a bad movie imo.
IMO, it was a bad movie. To me it had absolutely no business being nominated.
quote:
The English Patient was the most brutal movie I've ever had to sit through.
quote:I liked Dances with Wolves, but Goodfellas was the much better movie.
I think a more interesting question would be to pick which movie from a particular year was more deserving. For example, I really liked Argo but believe both Zero Dark Thirty & Django Unchained were more deserving of the Best Picture Oscar.
Tom Jones probably gets my vote as the worse ever, but it was also a pretty weak year.
quote:guilty
People who are saying something other than Tom Jones have never seen Tom Jones.
quote:
I thought Zero Dark Thirty was boring and Argo very deserving.
quote:quote:a brick to the face sounds preferable to sitting through the english patient
Crash: a 2 hour lecture about how racist you are with the subtlety of a brick to the face

quote:Or anything to do with racism. See: Selma, 12 Years a Slave, Crash, etc.
Rain Man won in one of the weakest years ever for the Academy Awards. But a good way to win an award is to make a movie about some kind of mental illness. Almost guarantees at least a nomination.
quote:The Artist is a great movie.
Could the fact that no one has seen one of the winners make it the worst choice ever? Has anyone seen (or have a desire to see) The Artist?
If there was ever a time for the Academy to show off how artistic, intellectual, avant garde and better than everyone else, it was picking a limited release silent film as the best picture of the year.
