Apropos of nothing other than it's a DC Universe thread, I recently discovered that Max has a TON of animated DC shows with the Justice League, Batman, Legion of Superheroes, and all that.

Now I understand why everyone makes over them all the time. I used to think animations were just Saturday cartoon shows grown up, but the first Spiderverse movie was really good. And with a realization that most of the Marvel movies have so much CGI they might as well be cartoons, I decided to give them a try, and I'm really enjoying them.

Pretty much all the Batman titles are straight adaptations from the graphic novels and pretty solid, worth a casual watch at least.

No spoilers, The Flash is an absolute blast. I went in with no spoilers and it paid off. It's absolutely bonkers and hilarious. The visuals really weren't that bad and it was just a really fun movie.

Also it's not worth staying for the post credit scene. I'll spoil it here:

Aquaman and Barry walk out of a bar talking about the multiverse and the different Batmans, then Aquaman falls into a puddle and gives Barry one of his Atlantean rings to pawn for beer money. Barry walks off saying that Aquaman is fine

My sister saw it last night at an early screening and texted me excitedly as she got out. Wants to watch it again when me and my wife go this weekend. Said she "loved it" and that it was "****ing hilarious."

These reactions continue to baffle the hell out of me. Less than 24 hours until I can finally see this thing for myself…

That guy is fos, it wasn't bad at all, it was a very good comicbook movie…

Edit: I liked all the DC universe movies, some were really good. Batman vs Superman is an all time classic…

It's pretty clear that he's not commenting on the quality of the movie. He's simply saying that The Flash's box office looks to be veering toward "unmitigated disaster" territory, which is "fitting" for what was to be a "culmination" of the DCEU, a franchise that was never fully embraced by the fans, and has seen nothing but diminishing returns the past four years. As of now, The Flash's three-day opening weekend domestic gross is projected to be only $64M. Which is somehow *less* than Black Adam's three-day opening weekend domestic gross of $67M, a movie that was considered an embarrassment for all involved, so much so that it put the nail in the coffin of the DCEU as we know it. With The Flash, for what was meant to be a celebratory last hurrah of sorts - with a prime summer release and Michael Keaton returning to don the cowl - to not outdo even Black Adam is a pretty massive failure, which puts all the more pressure on Superman: Legacy to right the ship two years from now.

Granted, two of those four movies - Wonder Woman 1984 and The Suicide Squad - were released during the pandemic, but still.

If I were WB, at this point I would consider releasing Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, currently scheduled for December 20, as soon as possible, if only to create as much distance between the DCEU and the DCU as they can. Because right now, I don't know that even 18 months will be enough for audiences to fully wash the taste of the DCEU out of their mouths, before Superman: Legacy - the first DCU entry - hits theaters on July 11, 2025.

Actually 42 for its June release in the States. I think it might have been released in Europe maybe 6-ish months earlier.

Will agree. But while I won't call that one an all-time classic, I do enjoy watching that one in much the same way that I enjoy Alien vs Predator or King Kong vs Godzilla

This is what i find on IMDB. I saw the movie for the first time on this day. At the time, I was a frequent reader of a magazine called Starlog that covered science fiction and fantasy movies. I don't recall reading anything about Superman II in the summer of 1980, and as a big fan of Superman:The Movie, I would have been beside myself with impatience on getting to see the sequel for another year (and this was in a time when sequels routinely required 3 years or more with little information available about their production).

Yep, it looks like the date brought up by Google is incorrect, and is the one that tweet used. Good catch.

That, or we're in a multiverse due to Barry Allen saving his mother. Is Marty McFly still Michael J Fox?

($72M is for the four-day holiday weekend, not the three-day, just FYI)

Between this and Indy, it could be years before a studio ever previews a blockbuster for the public four-to-six weeks in advance...

Weirdly enough, I have to drive directly past the Warner Bros lot today to get to our showing of The Flash. I'd give anything to sneak in and get a peak at those screen tests...

Dunno, I'm hoping it means the start of a break in the mass produced **** and maybe some space for more original action movies.
