Really good movie here. Given Affleck control is what I have been saying for a while.

Interesting move, but can they salvage it at this point?

Affleck can. The themes raised in BvS were fantastic, it was just a jumbled mess from an editing and final product standpoint. Affleck can make the narrative coherant and smooth. I have complete confidence in his abilities.

He's got to make the characters not super *****nozzles so we care about them. It's a primary reason marvel works so well. We care about the characters. These 3, not so much

Maybe he should really focus on some sort of childhood trauma so we have some empathy for his pain.

The themes raised had potential, but that film was a jumbled mess from an everything standpoint.

Affleck is totally capable of getting things much more on track, the question is whether he'll be given the freedom to.

I actually agree with him and think Mask of the Phantasm is the best Batman (live action or animated). I also would put Subzero and Under the Red Hood over any of the live action movies.

It appears there is some realignment going on at WB.

quote:
The fallout from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice continues to ripple through Warner Bros.

The Burbank-based studio is making changes to the way it handles its DC Entertainment-centered films, giving oversight of the feature projects to a pair of executives and creating a dedicated division for the films. Current executive vp Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, DC's chief content officer who successfully launched the comics label's foray into television, will co-run the newly created DC Films, according to multiple sources.

This move is part of a broader refinement of executive roles at Warners, which has suffered a disappointing run of movies and has vexed producers and filmmakers, some of whom complain about a murky greenlight process.

There's a lot more to that article.

quote:
Warner Bros. parted ways with screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith, who was to have made his directorial debut with The Flash. In another example of post-BvS fallout, the studio didn't feel confident in a first-time helmer and is now looking for a more seasoned filmmaker who can not only handle a large, $150 million-plus movie but who can also have an authoritative stamp.

And the studio is working to smooth out the third act of Suicide Squad, its big August movie from director David Ayer that could change the perception of its DC line. The pic's trailers have generated massive positive interest in the all-star actioner that features DC villains, and the studio wants to make sure audiences' expectations are not only met but exceeded.

Suicide Squad recently underwent major additional photography (multiple sources say it was not to add humor) to clear up the issues. Sources say it was Suicide Squad that escalated Johns' involvement in DC movies (he was already co-writing the next Batman stand-alone with Affleck), and he is involved in the film's postproduction.

I was mostly referring to them not having a Feige. But maybe they did in Snyder and this is essentially them putting someone else in that position.

Looks like Geoff Johns is now their Feige. A big positive is that he's been heavily involved in the DC comics for quite a while and has written many of the popular story lines.

Hopefully it improves the work, but there's a big difference between the comics side and the film side. I imagine that's a tough adjustment.

Definitely promising, just from this quote he gets it far more than Snyder ever did.
quote:
"I think people make a mistake when they say, 'Superman's not relatable because he's so powerful,'" he said. "I'm like, 'Are you kidding me? He's a farmboy from Kansas who moves to the city and just wants to do the best he can with what he's got.' That's the most relatable character in the world."

Here's hoping they get guys like Scott Snyder, Paul Dini, and Bruce Timm more involved as well.

So with Suicide Squad done, WW in post-prod, and JL already filming, how much can the ship be righted? Or, is this more cermonial, and he'd already been working behind the scenes since March?

I'm sure we can agree that DC will have no problem throwing in new management and changing the directions of all these projects midstream.

I'm really excited for this and it's good to hear, but BvS burned me bad with the early reactions (the screenings, not the critic reactions. On top of that, I thought BvS was worse than what the critics were saying.)

I'm in based on Harley Quinn, but I'm going in with no expectations for the movie as a whole.

quote:
The tweet round-up, collected by ComicBook.com, calls the new movie "a pleaser," "pretty great" and downright "amazing." And their positive responses can also be applied to the star-studded performances. Will Smith's Deadshot was also proclaimed "amazing," while Margot Robbie is "perfectly crazy" as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto's Joker fit the film's "aesthetics" and provided a "different aspect of insanity" to the iconic role. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje's Killer Croc, meanwhile, is reportedly something of a scene-stealer, as he left at least one audience member "rolling for days" by the end. Certainly some promising stuff.

Am I supposed to believe these were made by actual regular non-paid, movie-goers? Pfffft, hahaha, yeah right. These phrases reek of the fake paid-for endorsements that you see attached to crap movies....David Phoneybaloney from the Iowa City Gazatte says Suicide Squad is "downright amazing", calls Harley Quinn "perfectly crazy", and proclaims Killer Croc is a "scene stealer" that had him "rolling for days"!

We've heard this same song from DC/WB before with those fake reviews for BatsVsSupes, calling it the greatest superhero movie ever....same song, different verse.

If anything, this gives me less hope for this movie...do you see Marvel floating out fake reviews to hype up their movies?

I thought the suicide squads trailers have been really good, certainly better than anything put out for BvS. I don't know if that translates to a better movie but I'm optimistic.

That's not what I asked.

And for what it's worth, so far the movie looks promising from the trailers, but after listening to all the fake reviews and hype for BvS, no way am I believing anything until the actual movie comes out.
Bruce Almighty

The point is, the reviews are not likely fake, just over exaggerated. These early releases are just big parties where people act like the movie is better than it is.
