That's a good point. She didn't seem at all concerned. I can't remember once they met at Terminus if Daryl told her about Beth. Maybe since there just surviving right now she can't think about it too much.

I think Bob definitely got bit on the leg, and those guys amputating/grilling it actually saved his life, as it prevented it from spreading to the rest of his body.

So my question is... does the leg itself "turn"? Is it still infected?
Nope. It would have had to have been amputated immediately ala Herschel's leg to stop it.

Yeah, the better part of a day must have passed between Bob's bite (assuming he was bitten) and the leg being taken off. So, it seems likely the infection would've spread throughout his body by then.

Also, I have no idea what human flesh looks like when cooked, but I did notice that what Gareth was eating still looked red in the center? So, infection perhaps not killed by cooking? Is discovering this why Gareth is kicking Bob in the preview?

I also don't understand how a subsequent bite would turn someone unless they died first.

The infection has no affect unless you're dead.

The bite makes you die. Once you die, you turn.
It could be possible that the group doesn't know that all humans are infected? Over a 2 year span, i'm sure they would have figured it out but who knows. I guess if they don't know already, finding out that they are eating an infected body part could make them freak out.

Did the body that was being butchered in the season premier have a head on it? I don't recall. If it did not, that might be an indicator that they know everyone turns when they die.

It did not have a head. I took that to mean they knew how to keep them from turning.

The one on the table did have a head, but that was Garreth's brother...the one that Rick shot in the head. No need to cut it off I guess.

Daryl and Garreth?

I can totally see it as a distraction tactic. Take one for the team, Daryl!!

I read an article that said Daryl was "prison gay" where if you confront him about it he will kill you. I guess his time at the prison changed him

I'm going to be the insensitive one and say that BBQ Bob shouldn't have been outside crying like a little *****. He might have been alive long enough to go Walker on all of the annoying characters.

My thought on zombie infection and Bob. Maybe like ebola virus. Everyone has the zombie virus, but no impact on others until die OR turning. Like ebola no impact on others unless showing signs of sickness.

Maybe so.

From what I understand from the show, it isn't the actual scratch/bite of the walker that kills you. You get a fast spreading infection that your body can't fight. And you end up dead because of the infection - which then triggers reanimation that everyone who dies experiences.

So if you eat a piece of meat of someone who has this infection (after getting bit) then I guess you are going to be allowing that infection into your body. (if that's how it works which I don't really know) > in which case your body would not be able to fight the infection and you would ultimately die from it?

This is all assuming Bob was actually bit - which it looks like by the way he was acting.

I honestly didn't think bob got bit, until reading this thread. I just figured he was wrestling with his alcoholic demons as the entire crew was drinking and reveling in the wine in front of him.

If everyone in The Walking Dead already carries the virus like we learned in season 2, getting bit would be just a bite, since your body already has the virus. You can't infect the infected IMO.

The bite infection and the "Walker Virus" are two different things.
Fritter

Very True. But it's possible the infected meat could cause you to get sick and die, perhaps like Salmonella? Unless cooking the meat thoroughly kills the germs or whatever you'd like to call them.

Maybe with the "bite infection", but definitely not with the "walker infection" that everyone has. Obviously because the terminus residents have been eating people for a long time.

Exactly. A bite or scratch from a walker is a wound using the nastiest, dirtiest, most bacteria fill weapon imaginable. Think ripping your leg wide open with an old rusty ax that is covered in raw sewage and nasty blood and the Ebola and aggiefootball.

That crap will kill you. And once you're dead, you turn.

Yeah that's what i'm referring to - the bite infection itself. Not the "Walker Infection/Reanimation Virus"

Who knows - there's many ways the writers could go, but I doubt they'll want to kill off the Hunters that quickly.

It would be an interesting change of pace for the writers to kill off the hunters quickly - just like the quick resolution of terminus was. However, I think they will use the hunters to thin out a certain demographic first.

Why would they turn to canabalism? Wouldn't small game be way more plentiful and way less dangerious?
RedbeardAG

There is a disconnect between how you die from a walker bite. It's been shown that a scratch or bite will kill you, yet there are dozens of scenes where they brutally kill zombies or spread zombie blood all over their bodies. I find it highly unlikely the blood would never get into your mouth/eyes/open wound. So why does a scratch from a zombie kill you when coming in direct contact with bodily fluids has no effect? This would be doubly weird if ingesting a bitten person ends up killing you.
gigemags-99
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It has been established that a bite will kill you. It has not been made clear about contact with blood. We know Glenn and Rick were really cautious the first time (in season 1) when they covered themselves. Since then it seems they don't think it is a big deal.
