So do you think they are going to keep Starlords dad true to the comics or retcon it for the movie universe? It would be very stupid if they made his dad Thanos or some lame crap.

There will be a GotG 2, so Im sure they can introduce his father without it being Thanos.

Wonder if Disney worries at all about having Guardians and Star Wars compete.

they should make his dad Adam Warlock

^^That was my immediate thought, as well.

Warlock and Thanos have a history that would work well into the sequels. So it goes against comic continuity.....big deal.

Yeah, having his dad as Adam Warlock would be pretty sweet. At least it would make it easier to introduce that character. Since he's a necessity to deal with Thanos, I'm not sure how else they plan on doing it.

Yeah, I think comic books are pretty stupid, to be honest. Never understood their popularity.

Reminds me of "Dear Mr. Watterson." They talk about how a book can be considered "high art", and a drawing or painting can be considered "high art." But you put the two together, and suddenly it becomes "low art"? That makes no sense (and that's the point the documentary makes).

Not what I meant. Just saying that they have some similar elements. Remember that there is going to be a Star Wars movie EVERY YEAR. Guardians might seem a little superfluous on top of that.

Put another way, if we just had a Star Wars flick in May, would Guardians have opened to record numbers?
PatAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
yes. This would be multiple months after, people would have had time to see star wars 2-3 times and have at least a month if not 2 to be ready for another splurge.

Not any different than three superhero movies coming out every summer.

Man, that VanZandt guy is trolling you guys really well. Don't bite so hard next time.

The movie is at like 90% on RT and made $94MM this weekend. It's clear it doesn't suck.

If you went to a movie that was advertised with a smartass raccoon, and are surprised at the smartass raccoon, you are a moron.

Adam Warlock would be very cool. Hopefully he gets introduce in by the next Guardian of the Galaxy. I think J'sen is out cause they said that it was from a race they didn't recognized.. well that takes out a known empire, so no J'sen.

Okay, I read this in an article on another site:

Quill's Ravager ship? The one he refers to as "Milano"?

It's named after his childhood crush....Alyssa Milano.

First HP and first LOTR came out within a month of each other. Both did rather well at the box office as I recall.

The movie was a great example of why comic book lovers shouldn'tbe given access to the bank vault. While you wouldn't think they could make a sequel to the movie, id bet anything they are considering it. The mental heavyweights at the studios…

Movie execs don't give a **** about making good movies, they give a **** about making money. Which explains Adam Sandler.

Y'all have hit on most everything already. That was just plain fun. Not a huge comic guy, so I don't know any of the stories of anyone. I enjoy some comic movies and get bored with others. But I absolutely loved that film. Just a lot of fun.

I only skimmed the thread, but I didn't see this scene mentioned (my buddy's teenage daughter made fun of me for being the only one to laugh so loud):

ZOE SALDANA: (As Gamora) We have to stop Ronan.

BRADLEY COOPER: (As Rocket) How?

CHRIS PRATT: (As Quill) I have a plan.

COOPER: (As Rocket) You've got a plan?

PRATT: (As Quill) Yes.

COOPER: (As Rocket) First of all, you're copying me from when I said I had a plan.

PRATT: (As Quill) No I'm not. People say that all the time. It's not that unique of a thing to say.

COOPER: (As Rocket) Secondly, I don't even believe you have a plan.

PRATT: (As Quill) I have part of a plan.

DAVE BAUTISTA: (As Drax) What percentage of a plan do you have?

SALDANA: (As Gamora) You don't get to ask questions after the nonsense you pulled on nowhere.

BAUTISTA: (As Drax) I just saved Quill.

PRATT: (As Quill) We've already established that you destroying the ship that I'm on is not saving me.

BAUTISTA: (As Drax) When did we establish this?

PRATT: (As Quill) Like three seconds ago.

BAUTISTA: (As Drax) I wasn't listening. I was thinking of something else.

COOPER: (As Rocket) She's right. You don't get an opinion - what percentage?

PRATT: (As Quill) I don't know - 12 percent.

COOPER: (As Rocket) 12 percent? (Laughing).

PRATT: (As Quill) That's a fake laugh.

COOPER: (As Rocket) It's real.

PRATT: (As Quill) Totally fake.

COOPER: (As Rocket) That is the most real, authentic, hysterical laugh of my entire left because that is not a plan.

SALDANA: (As Gamora) It's barely a concept.

PRATT: (As Quill) You're taking their side?

VIN DIESEL: (As Groot) I am Groot.

COOPER: (As Rocket) So what it's better than 11 percent? What the hell does that have to do with anything?

PRATT: (As Quill) Thank you, Groot. Thank you - see? Groot's the only one of you who has a clue.

So what was that device that Peter had when he was exploring the planet at the beginning? Something that allowed him to view a past civilization?

A perfect example of the humor of this movie, that is right in my wheelhouse, is the scene where Drax interrupts the attempted prison murder on Gamora. At one point Starlord makes the throat slashing hand sign, and Drax takes it literally. So Quill says something to the effect of "I thought everyone knew what that was" and the criminal in the background nods his head and says yea. The scene cuts back to Drax basically glaring at Quill, and when the camera is back on Quill as the focal point, you see the criminal change his yes to a negative.

I enjoy subtlety

I think it was just a dirty of 3d video that the device overlayed on top of the scenery.

I liked Starlord doing the hand crank with the middle finger and then saying "sorry I didn't know how this thing worked." i'm a child.

I also agree that Howard the Duck did not look like Howard the Duck but more like his deadbeat alcoholic cousin.

He looks more like the original version from the comics. The movie version changed the look because the comic looked like Daffy Duck iirc.

I want to see this movie again

I didn't noticed that the shot of him taking the orb at the beginning was almost the exact same as Indy stealing the idol in Raiders
