Barry,

At the end of the second game I was in 2nd place and the final Jeopardy! Question was a medical question. I wagered all but $1.

Here is my "kick myself in the head" moment...

Before the final J! Clue all of the contestants write down their bet. The two challengers are allowed to change their bet after locking it in, however, the champion is not. So I wrote down my wager but I wrote it very small.

The coordinator said "ok, but erase it and re-write it, bigger". In my head I was screaming, "just ask if you can change your vet to $0!!". I didn't think my competition would know the answer. But I didn't ask.

All three of us got final J! Wrong and I ended in second place and lost about $5000. It is tough to notthink back on it but I watched the next game and I would have been absolutely smoked...so I tell myself it is a good thing I didn't win.

But, I lost out on $6000-$7000.

I keep kicking around the idea of trying out again after Trebeck retires (after next season) but I don't think I could put myself through that prep again.

Crazy about changing the bet.

For those talking about the game changing due to this style, isn't the easy fix to randomize where the Daily a Double is instead of putting it at the bottom?

So Sock Ag, did they ever have to stop rolling and edit something out?

Have you heard of a contestant's bad behavior or a cuss word have to be edited?
Wade_3

Southlake,

They actually semi-edited something I did. There was an awkward pause in my second interview with Alex so I flexed at him and he flexed back, after a couple of seconds. They edited out those few seconds.

Normally during commercial breaks they had Alex re-read a clue or word that the producers didn't like the sound of, but I didn't see them ask an contestants to re-do any clues or comments.

The producers are actually ok with contestants going slightly off script because it usually becomes a talked about event. They told us to be lively when answering questions because Jeopardy! Has a reputation of being stuffy.

Yep. They never explained the reasoning behind it but I never asked either.

Hold up, you flexed at Alex?!!!
Wade_3
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I did.

On the show they aired they show him flexing back and he says, "I can do that too!"

But they cut out me flexing at Alex.

The backstory is, I used to be big into power lifting and he was asking me about my weight lifting feats and after answering him there was an awkward pause and I had no idea what to do so I flexed at him.

It was one of the more surreal moments of my life.

I thought that choosing questions early from further down was just to get in the other players heads. I never thought of the daily double aspect.

Some Ag named Tucker Pope is on Jeopardy right now. Which of you is that?

Tucker Pope of Lubbock, who currently is a sophomore at Texas A&M University, has participated in the "Jeopardy" College Championship.

According to Susie Eun, "Jeopardy" publicist, the shows have been completed and will begin airing today, Feb. 10, but no information can be released about the contest outcome.

Local viewing time for "Jeopardy" is 4:30 p.m. on KCBD-TV.

The two-week tournament involved 15 students who represent colleges and universities across the nation. They are competing for $100,000 and automatic admission into the next Tournament of Champions.

Pope, who is the son of Richard Pope and Dr. Susan Davis of Lubbock, said he made friends during the event.

“We all became really good friends. They’re all great people, and more than any cash winnings, I care most about gaining those friendships,” he said.

The set in Los Angeles, where the contest was recorded, was much larger than expected. “It looks really small on TV, but it’s about twice as big as I thought it was. I wasn’t really anticipating all the cameras and all that kind of stuff,” Pope said.

He was impressed with show host Alex Trebek. “He was very nice. But I really only got to talk to him during the games — I wasn’t able to talk to him outside of that.”

The students qualified by taking a 50-question online test. Those who passed were selected at random to attend regional, in-person auditions with a second 50-question test, practice game play and a brief interview.

The television program "Jeopardy" and Alex Trebek are celebrating 30 years of answers and questions. "Jeopardy" holds the Guinness World Record for most Emmys won by a TV game show with 30.

The show is distributed domestically by CBS Television Distribution.

Pope is a business honors major at the university.

“I was looking for a place that had a really good community feel to it, and where everybody felt connected,” he said. “And I didn’t feel that anywhere more than I felt it at A&M.

“Texas A&M is just one big family.”

unfortunately he's getting smoked by some OU chick.

Arthur went down today. Finished at 12(think) wins and around 298k.

Girl who won dominated single and the beginning of double jeopardy.

Chu made a comeback and found the last daily double with 7500 and 1st place at 12ish.

He went true daily double and missed. Still clawed back to 6400 for final jeopardy and within reach but he missed the question and 1st place got hers right.

What was fun was that the 2 ladies got in on the action and were targeting big numbers first in both rounds. They weren't hunting for daily doubles but definitely joined in on going with high value answers first. I think it messed with Chu a lot.

I couldn't even begin to imagine playing 12 games. He played a stretch of at least 5 games in a row on one of his visits out and that is really impressive.

Imagine playing Jeopardy from 10am to 430pm with one major break of an hour in between. I was mentally and physically exhausted after only 2 games...couldn't imagine going back for a 2nd or 3rd trip.

Sock - are you saying that the two challengers are allowed to change their bet in final Jeopardy AFTER seeing the clue??
Professor Frick

Yeah, he keeps saying that that's the case, but I have s very hard time believe it.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I dont think they can change their dollar amount after they see the clue. I think they get a chance to change their amount after the topic is revealed and during the commercial break before the clue is revealed. Pretty sure that was misread from his quote above.

But that doesn't make any sense because NO ONE writes down a bet until the topic is revealed.
MustangHorseMan
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think what he meant is that there is a little break where the commercial is on the show and the other two people can rethink their bids at that time.
Wade_3
How long do you want to ignore this user?
After the end of double Jeopardy they reveal the final jeopardy topic.

They go to commercial break, tell the contestants to write down either "who is" or "what is" and then they tell you to write down your final wager.

The coordinators will help you with any math you need to do and when you are done writing your wager you put the light pen down. At that point they lock in the champions wager. The challengers can change their mind and the coordinators will push a little button on the podium that erases the light screen and they can re-write their bet.

They made sure we knew the rule prior to the game and again prior to final jeopardy. They even told us multiple times during the pre-taping meetings and set walk through.

I don't have any reason to lie about it. Hell, I wish it was different, I would have won another ~$7000.
Wade_3
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You can't change anything after you see the clue, only after you see the category.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
So that's not a factor as long as everyone is ok with the first wager they write, correct?

I wonder why it's done that way. Seems like an odd quirk.
Wade_3
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Correct. I don't know why it is done that way, they never explained it (nobody asked either).
AgKJ
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Thanks for the detailed reply. Really makes no sense:

- see the topic
- write down who is/what is as well as your bet
- challengers may then change bet (why? No new data to go on)
- clue revealed
