Philip and Elizabeth constantly complaining about "the boys" who died in the submarine is really annoying me.

The U.S. Being able to trick the soviets into creating a faulty submarine is just brilliant war/spy maneuvering, and initially I expected something closer to a "tip of the cap & well played" from Phil and Liz. It's not like the Russians wouldn't do the exact same thing if they had the chance.

Maybe the complaining falls within the realm of characters beginning to break, but it goes against my idea of who they are.

Finally caught up. Great show. I was impressed that the minister isn't been portrayed as either a creeper or buffoon. Philip was unnerved that he could not intimidate him.

Ol Philly is having a good old fashioned existential crisis. He's racking up his own submarine crew worth of innocent bodies himself. Which is of course why they (E&P) keep bringing it up. "They were so wrong for killing those boys!!!!" as Phil kills another innocent who was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Nothing on last night's episode? Can someone explain to me who Annalise is? I don't remember her at all.

Annelise was involved in the plot to place the bugged the clock in the deputy undersecretary of defense's home back in season one.

Really curious where they're going with Larrick. He just took out a MAJOR piece of the Soviet operation when he located and assassinated the operator via phone records.

Based on his uniform, Larrick is obviously from the future.

Still can't believe more people don't watch this show. Not a single person I know watches it. It's the best thing on television right now. I'd watch it instead of GoT every day of the week and twice on Sunday. EOT.

Noticed the very out of place fatigues as well. Surprised wardrobe couldn't find something more appropriate at a surplus store. Not like there were a ton of soldiers/sailors to outfit.

This show is EXCELLENT

it IS good, but i wouldn't put it anywhere on par with GOT.

Better than GOT.

Important to remember that GoT is an adaptation of literary works. Seems like a distinction worth mentioning.

The Americans doesn't have that deep, rich source material.

I don't give that line of reasoning a whole lot of weight.

The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Homeland, etc didn't have deep literary source material. And plenty of stinker series/movies did have such.

The former have the freedom of a blank canvas. The later have the "benefit" of deep source material, but that's also limiting. (see the enthusiasm for a spin-off The Walking Dead series in the same universe but with characters not from the graphic novels...)

Great work can be done in either situation, no excuses are necessary or granted.

I really like The Americans. I just think the 3 series named above are superior.

Just like not everyone can be Michael Jordan, it's no shame to be not quite as good as the very best. The Americans is a very good show that I choose to spend time watching

Ah, is that who answered? I'd didn't recognize her and thought Larrick had just reached another random operation S household, and he was about to go on a killing spree knocking off soviets (attracting the attention of the soviets and FBI alike) until he finds the right house.

Going straight for the handler will be an interesting, different direction. Looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.

Other than very small appearances, yes. She took the big $$ from CBS to be an annoying mom/grandma on "the Millers". Filming schedules didn't allow for her to appear very much. The Millers got renewed so unless they alter schedules or work something out Claudia will be a small part (if present at all) going forward.

Welp. Claudia or no, Phil and Elizabeth are gonna need a new handler.

Okay.....guesses on the handler/orphaned son connection?? Man these last few episodes are gonna cook!!

Haven't put a ton of thought into it, but two separate questions...

1) What was her cover, if any? Elizabeth was very concerned about Kate's lack of disguise. What happens if/when the murdered woman's photo hits the media and the kid sees it?

2) What the heck was she talking to him about?

Maybe they were both double agents and the kid killed his parents.

Pretty boring episode. Oh well, no one bats 1.000.

Yeah, I think the kid is already a soviet agent/illegal. As mentioned when the couple was alive, they used their kids in their missions. Makes sense that the older teenage son would be aware and in on it. I don't think he is a double agent or involved in the murders, but won't rule that type of twist out. However , I'm thinking he's just an agent being handled and that is the extent of the twist.

Because Gaad was about to lose his job over Beeman killing Vlad last year...but then Gaad got Arkady to drop the Soviet protest over the event, giving Gaad his job back.
