can someone give me the cliff's notes version of aggierogues post? Once he called REK trash and defended Pat Green by listing his grammy nominations I skipped ahead.

Using Grammy nods to measure Pat's greatness is like using radio airtime to measure the greatness of a punk band. Think about it

I like Pat and Cory (and those of their ilk) for what they are - entertainment. They're good performers and their shows are good but if you're talking songwriting they can't even begin to touch REK, Lyle Lovett, Guy Clark, Gary P. Nunn and the Texas artists of the generation before them.

I met Pat at a Jerry Jeff Walker show at Billy Bob's way back in 97 or 98 before he really exploded... and he really did seem like a nice guy.

pat green is a sellout/no-talent ass clown. but a great entertainer. i got his 1st album back in summer of 1998. i thought he was a talented up-and-comer. i saw him open for jerry jeff walker that summer at floores country store and i was even more impressed. but his songwriting has not improved at all. and although back then he sang about "i gave up on nashville a long time ago" those have changed and now he had videos on CMT,.... he is making money hand over fist but he is very much like a boy-band. his audience, by and large, is full of young college students. his audience past 25 isn't that extensive.

i am disappointed that pat green hasn't improved more as a songwriter.

on the other hand, my top 4 favorites are robert earl, charlie robison, jack ingram & bruce robison. charlie's feud with pat green went public in the texas monthly article last summer. pretty much said that pat green writes about "beer, beer, beer, tacos, tacos, tacos". i laughed honestly. i also watched jack ingram at floores last month and he was doing an acoustic set there. he said a few negative things about pat green as well. nothing that bad but you could tell that these guys aren't big fans of his. partially due to jealousy, i'm sure, but also partly b/c of the songs he puts out. those 4 i listed can write awesome songs and put on great concerts.

by the way, how many times can pat green release "three days" or "take me out to a dancehall"? by my count, he has them on 3 albums already. in fact, i don't know the difference between his albums "three days" & "carry on". if you look at the tracklist, both cds have 4 of the same songs "take me out to a dancehall", "whiskey", "crazy", and "three days". that is 4 out of 12 songs.

Three Days was released on a more major album than Carry On was. Looks like they just wanted to release pretty much the same songs, with only a few new when he got the bigger record deal.

"three days" the song is not on carry on the album. I can promise you that. I personally feel that the song "three days" is absolutely horrible and will no purchase another pat green album as log as i live because he truly is a sellout. If you sound like nashville, look like nashville, and write like nashville, then guess what...you are nashville.

On the other hand, jack ingram charlie robison and bruce robison are great artist but i would only put bruce in the great songwriter category. The man is absolutely amazing. I have a man crush on bruce robison.

On the first foot, anyone ever heard of jesse dayton, i believe that is his name. strangest sound ive ever heard from a new young artist. He sounds a ton like waylon jennings to me but he is only in his 20s i believe. Good cd though.

i stand corrected there are 5 songs that are on both "three days" & "carry on". and the sad thing is that "three days" isn't one of them.

they are "take me out to the dancehall", "whiskey", "crazy", "gallywinter", and "carry on". those 5 songs are on both albums.

on top of that "southbound 35" is also on the "carry on" album as well. he has that on 4 of his albums. unbelievable.

another correction, southbound 35 is not on the carry on cd, this correction may be wrong cause im too lazy to go to my car and get the cd but im pretty sure i am correct. The other four you got right though. In anyone's opinion what is Pats best song. I would have to go with "crazy" or "nightmare"

I like the song Pat sings about drinking beer and his love for Texas! It's very original.

"southbound 35" is on the "three days" album is what i meant. that album is about one thing; making money. there are 5 original songs and that's it out of 12.

the thing is that is what pat green was openly against early on his career. i remember reading his jacket in his 1st album & chris wall talks highly of him. today few of the texas country artists do (other than his entourage, by the way cory morrow does more name dropping than anyone i have heard, even in his songs).

Anyone ever heard of chris knight, he sings "framed" and "it ain't easy being me" this guy is a real talent for writing ironic songs, anyway he is playing at southern junction outside of rockwall on friday if anyone is interested.
