I think some of you are confused as to what the thread is about. Some of these are awesome, but there are also some that are just a random screenshot from the movie.

The thread is about good compositions of a certain shot in a movie, not just an image from your favorite scene in a movie.

From this thread title

Now, I will say that man some of you have some VERY dark film images that are your favorite, but that is what opinions are and are what makes us all different.

Dave, not sure what quote to post:

"You tell 'em hell's coming with me..."

-or-

"It's all in the reflexes!"

Admittedly, I had a hard time coming up with a good still image, but it's the end scene to Gangs of New York.

I can't explain why, but I love that ending.

Sex Panther (can't believe I typed that; but I know it's from Anchorman), looks like "I am Legend"

Helgs, check out the youtube clip P_Bubel just posted. It's Gangs of New Yorks end scene. Really cool scene that shows a burning New York skyline from circa 1860 transform progressively into the New York of today.

Cool image Bubel.

Noble Men: The original intent was to post images that use spacing and imagery to illicit a certain emotional/intellectual response.

People who post Phoebe Cates coming out of the Pool in Ridgemont High or Belushi giving the Germans/Pearl Harbor speech really dont add much. Except it reveals a bit about the poster.

I can understand Mission Impossible, the guys a spy and he cannot leave a trace (or trip the alarm). Its imagery but its less than iconic and its certainly not expressing an archetype. Then look at Ripley from Alien 3, the whole idea behind the alien is a phallus. And its going around killing everyone. So the image of the Alien and Ripley turning her head in terror as it approaches can be interpreted as rape. Everyone can relate to rape fear (especially in the 3rd one where it was placed it a mens only prison), not everyone can relate to being stealthy.

With the original intent in mind, my first choice already got posted - the girl in red from Schindler's List. It was incredibly subtle, yet pointed and expressed in a matter of seconds a power and emotion that is difficult to describe in words.

If 'smug' means enjoying films because of what it conveys rather than the appeal of tits or fart jokes, then maybe I am smug.

Its like in Idiocracy with "Ass" Oscars and best screenplay...
